Voidbound Blade Item in The Al'akyrian Realms | World Anvil

Voidbound Blade

Overview

A Voidbound Blade is a rather rare piece of work that is said to have originated within The Deadlands or perhaps even Vora'zhul, The Shadow Realm. The exact origins are unknown as both locales seem to possess materials to make at least some version of this blade, but the results that made it recieve its namesake is the same.

Description

The metal used to create the sword are an inky, oily black, it seems almost as though liquid flowing over the blade, despite being a solid metal. Usually some arcane and esoteric runes are etched along the blade, where the origins determine (usually) what language they are in. Aside from the metal used for the blade, a variety of materials are used to shape the handle and pommel of the weapon, sometimes even adding in a crossguard. For Vampires of The Deadlands for instance they might favor a ruby or onyx gemstone set into the pommel while within Vora'zhul, The Shadow Realm the Vo'zamari might favor a straight-forward completely black weapon.

Use

When within the sheath designed for it, nothing happens. However, as soon as the blade is drawn, that oily darkness that seems to be within the blade starts siphoning the light from the area. Slowly darkening it until all the lights around it are extinguished, even magical ones. Settling the sword back into its sheath does not relight the fires and only magical fires may even illuminate once again without assistance. This only accounting for one use of the blade, not to speak of the naturally poisonous material that can sicken those struck with such a weapon.
