The Supittogāido (Sup-ito-guy-doe)

Overview

The Supittogāido is the pantheon found on the Anamatsu Islands. This Pantheon represents the spiritual needs of the Kaisu people. It is made up of two main categories that are further split into smaller, more precise categories that help the Kaisu determine who exactly is focal to their Gods and who is more regional and controls only a smaller, specific section of their land. Either way the Supittogāido is the ultimate religion in the region and while not necessarily everyone follows it, most adhere to the otherwise strict principles of its gods.   Within this heirarchy lie two primary types of spirits and entites within their Pantheon. The Kami and the Yokāi. It should be said that not all Kami and Yokāi are necessarily specific beings, and some represent vast types of creatures or peoples venerated by the Kaisu people. However, some are specific beings and deities of which they worship, or even specfic creatures or spirits that hold vast power over their respective domain. The Kami are divided into the Anamatsu, which are the primary deities and greater spirits, the Noraki which are associated with spirit animals and divine spirits, and the Lo'na which are the lesser spirits.   The Yokāi, however, have a lot more different types but are still divided into three distinct categories. The Oni are the greater evil spirits and typically associated with demons and devils. The Jotaro, however, are associated with evil spirits and the creatures of darkness that tend to associate with the Oni and Yokāi as a whole. Then there are the Morokei which are the lesser dark and evil spirits that wander the land.

The Kami

The Kami are largely seen as the 'holy' and otherwise positive and good spirits and beings of the Anamatsu Islands. They each hold a domain over something or otherwise have powers that aid the Kaisu people. While they are divided into three separate categories, they tend to be worshipped more based on regional power than favoring one over the other. However, that is not to say there are not organizations and people that don't focus on a singular Kami, though usually it is focused on an Anamatsu as they hold domain over the whole of the Anamatsu Islands.

Anamatsu (Gods/Greater Spirits)

The Anamatsu specifically are the deities, gods, and greater spirits that make up the fabric of the Anamatsu Islands. What sets the Anamatsu apart from the other Kami is that their power is present and felt across all of the land instead of being locked to a specific region or island. There are no peoples or types of creatures that fit into the Anamatsu, instead all of them are singular entities with grand or divine power.

Isol, Guardian of the Sun

Isol is the warrior-saint of the Sun. Typically depicted as a female with flowing robes and a nodachi resting upon her shoulder, she is a warrior-saint who defends the Sun and ensures that it raises each morning and sets each night. It is through her that the land prospers and that its people find themselves protected against the darkness and the creatures that inhabit it. Due to her immense power and important role in the Supittogāido, it has led to the creation of the Taiyō no shimai-dan or Sisterhood of the Sun.   Domains:
  • Sun
  • Defense
  • Prosperity

Gaizo, Herald of Lua

An Anamatsu who is said to be deeply meditative and, while associated with the Kami and good, perhaps viewed with suspicion as the Kaisu people tend to look not so favorably upon the darkness of the night, and some see Gaizo as the cause of the darkness. However, those who truly know Gaizo and his domains know that it is in fact he who prevents the darkest creatures and Yokāi of the night from emerging under the light of Lua, the Moon. However, because he is not as widely accepted as other Anamatsu, the Temple of Lua has been driven largely underground.   Domains:
  • Lua
  • Light
  • Meditation

Quilin, Warrior-Saint of the Heavens

Quilin is whom many consider to be the chief patron of warriors and samurai on the Anamatsu Islands. Quilin is largely considered to be the warrior-saint of the Heavens and a powerful warrior who blessed the Kaisu with the first bladeforms and techniques to banish the creatures of the darkness and establish their first nations. It is because of them, that the Kaisu have risen up and claimed the Islands as their own.   Domains:
  • War
  • Discipline
  • Honor

Nodori, Hand of the Empire

Nodori is the Anamatsu that is generally associated with the Imperial Family. It is he who was said to have guided the Kaisu people into founding the first empires on the islands and who guided the principles in which they rule over their people. It is Nodori who gave the Inimatori Clan the Divine Mandate and declared them to be the Imperial Family. It is through this Mandate that the champions of the Empire of the Divine Sun had their warriors blessed by Nodori and pushed back the darkness. Because of this, Nodori is heavily revered across all of the Anamatsu Islands, even though the Inimatori Clan has fallen into obscurity and there are whispers of the Divine Mandate being lost.   Domains:
  • The Divine Mandate
  • Expansion
  • Regality

Xian-Jangshi, The White Tiger

Xian-Jangshi is the White Tiger and considered to be the apex predator upon the Anamatsu Islands. Xian-Janshi stalks and hunts the Yokāi and other creatures of the darkness. It is said Xian-Jangshi was the first to teach the Kaisu how to hunt. However, it is said that one day The White Tiger will return from it's slumber after the The Blackest Night left a grevious wound upon the Anamatsu, and once more join the Kaisu in the hunt against the Yokāi.   Domains:
  • The Hunt
  • Monster Slaying
  • Survival

Noraki

The Noraki are largely considered to be the Spirit Animals that guide the Kaisu people and are also considered to be Divine Spirits. While the Anamatsu maintain power over the entirety of their namesake islands, the Noraki are more regional and while some are revered across the Anamatsu Islands they are more often seen as regional powers and tend to garner the favor of the people who live nearby.

Tsunda, The Red Bastion

Tsunda is perhaps best known for protecting the Red Serpent Bastion, Tsunda is depicted as an androgynous warrior with a repeating crossbow in one hand resting on their shoulder and a gaundao in their other hand. It is for this reason that all who are sent to defend the bastion tend to revere Tsunda. While not often seen, it is said that Tsunda helps protect the Red Serpent Bastion in other ways such as warding the wall against magical threats. Though, there is a legend that says Tsunda will rise to defend the Bastion should it come under grave danger.   Domains:

Roggi, The Twinned Peaks

Roggi is the spirit associated with The Twinned Peaks, the highest mountains in the Anamatsu Islands. It is here that Roggi dwells and he never leaves his mountain home, though many venture up to the chilling summits to his monestary to seek his wisdom. He is unshakeable as the earth and as serene as the mountain winds and trains the monks to decide to swear themselves to him, where he teaches them patience, and self-defense, though they are inherently more pacifistic. None-the-less the Monestary of the Unbreakable was founded and so too was the Way of the Standing Stone.   Domains:
  • Pacifism
  • Discipline
  • Patience

Lo'na

Lo'na are the lesser spirits that make up the Kami. While the Anamatsu and Noraki typically have a level of immortality, the Lo'na are usually mostly mortal creatures that are associated with the good and positive energy in the Anamatsu Islands. Though they usually only influence the areas around them. Some Lo'na are lesser beings that work for the Anamatsu or Noraki and are given a level of reverence because of it, while others exist solely on their own and are just seen as forces or spirits of the light in the eyes of the Kaisu people.

Yokāi

The Yokāi are the supernatural and generally (though not always) evil spirits that inhabit the Anamatsu Islands. The Kaisu people tend to look upon them with suspicion is not outright hate. The Yokāi are divided into three main categories. The Oni which denote the demons and devils of the islands as well as the greater evil spirits. Furthermore, there are the Jotaro which are the general evil spirits and also the creatures of the darkness that haunt the Kaisu. Finally, there are the Morokei which are considered to be lesser dark or evil spirits.

Oni

The Oni themselves represent all the dark deities, demons, and devils that inhabit the Anamatsu Islands. All Oni are evil and devious creatures who seek the ultimate destruction of the Kaisu people and their societies. It is for this reason that all Oni are looked upon with great disdain and hunted by those who are brave enough, or stupid enough to dare test one in combat. While not all Oni are on the same level as the Anamatsu, there are many that rival even the gods and greater divines of The Supittogāido. Oni are the ultimate darkness within the land.

Saggurath, The Dragon-Ogre

Saggurath is depicted as a massive ogre wearing traditional Kaisu armor. His massive tusks jut out from under the infernal and hellish mask he wears. His weapon of choice is a kanabō and his hair is stark white and seems to flow from his head. It is said you can see the fiery pits of the abyss in his eyes as he leads the Dragon-Ogres in their effort to destroy all that remains of the Kaisu people and the Anamatsu especially. He is a towering figure and his unholy strength is said to fell buildings with a single hit from his kanabō. Legends say that despite the wound given to him on The Blackest Night he will one day recover and lead the Dragon-Ogres across the Anamatsu Islands once more.   Domains:
  • War
  • Hatred
  • Feasts

Dao-minh Ho, The Lost

Dao-minh Ho is a legendary figure and well-known as his legacy is taught to all the Kaisu people who would go on to become Samurai. It is said that in the past, Dao-minh served the Emperor when they were first given the Divine Mandate and served faithfully as his bodyguard and as an agent to bring the other clans under heel. However, Dao-minh was tempted by the crown and thought that the Divine Mandate could be taken for himself, and so he murdered the Emperor in cold blood, forcing him into hiding. However, whatever damage he had done seems to have granted him some power, as despite all the years that have passed, Dao-minh still roams the land, a lasting wound on the Empire, his name akin to that of a boogeyman to the Kaisu people. But, his crimes are still taught to the Samurai so that they might not follow his path. Of course, this only tempted some and as such the Daimon Clan was created from those Samurai who became Jianshi or exiled.   Domains:
  • Insanity
  • Corruption
  • Fallen Samurai

Win'ho Masnyu, The Black Serpent

Win'ho Masnyu, or more commonly known as The Black Serpent is a dragon whose home is in the Anamatsu Islands. He is said to be a fallen celestial who had descended from the heavens eons ago in defense of the Kaisu people. However, it is said that Black Serpent, in its fight against the other Oni was taken down and abandoned by the Kaisu, and the wounds left inflicted upon it were so severe that there was no chance of it living, however... It did survive, and corruption seeped into its very being, being left with nothing but hate and rage towards the people who abandoned it. It is said that when Win'ho fell that day, so too did his brood succumb to the same corruption he did as they rampaged across the islands for a time before being fended off by the Kami and the people of the land.   Domains:
  • Evil Dragons
  • Blasphemy
  • Desecration

Faenyu, The Twisted

It is said that once Faenyu was an alchemist, a simple profession but one full of intrigue and experiments. It is said that, in some ways, he contributed to the iconic Dragonship that the Kaisu are known so well for. However, as with many great alchemists in the past, he had become obsessive over his work, constantly trying to push the boundaries of experiments with more and more morally questionable trials. Perhaps most notable was Faenyu's obsession with finding an elixer to grant him immortal life. Unfortunately, as his experiments grew more and more twisted and he tried to extract the lifeforce of people to fuel his research and was further ostrascized from the Empire. Unfortunately, despite this, his experiments continued and it seems like he was successful to some degree, as he has become an Oni, and one of the grim and dark individuals who haunt the Kaisu people, forever in search of more twisted and demented research. Commonly, he is seen as a lanky and thin individual with his most distinctive feature being a broken mask he wears that shows the top right of his face, and how horribly burned and twisted his features have become.   Domains:
  • Alchemy
  • Experimentation
  • Necromancy

Yin'do Jiandao, The Hellfire General

Yin'do is the Hellfire General who commands the armies of devils that wreck havoc upon the Anamatsu Islands. While the devils do not have as much of a presence and are usually not in the same style as other parts of the realm, they are incredibly dangerous and fierce warriors. Constantly, the Hellfire General leads incursions into the islands, attacking and corrupting the people within. Though, after the construction of the Red Serpent Bastion his reach into the core island has been significantly reduced as its the energies that surround The Well of Souls that allow him to rend tears in reality and let forth his infernal legions.   Domains:
  • Devils
  • War
  • Destruction

Jotaro

The Jotaro are lesser Yokāi than the Oni and while many of them tend to serve the Oni in some capacity, many are also free agents who seek to carve out their own path and perhaps one day become Oni themselves. The Jotaro, however, are not just these individuals who crave power or serve under their dark masters, they are also the creatures and begins that haunt the darkness of the Anamatsu Islands, some being very feral and animalistic in nature, though almost all having a great deal of intelligence.

Guido, The Dragon-Ogre Titan

Guido is perhaps the greatest success of Saggurath. He is a towering monstrosity of a Dragon-Ogre, said to be as tall as the walls of the Red Serpent Bastion. His lumbering steps shaking the ground beneath his feet. Unfortunately, or perhaps fortunately, Guido is far from the smartest Dragon-Ogre and so, despite his size, he needs to have his rage and savagry directed by others so that he does not start attacking his kin by accident. Whenever he attacks the Bastion his strength can rip the battlements apart, if not for the protection from Tsunda, it is expected that the Bastion would have been lost long ago to Guido's rage and hatred.   Domains:
  • Rage
  • Destruction
  • Savagry

Morokei

The Morokei are the lesser dark and evil spirits. Though not all Morokei are inherently evil, and most are far weaker than both the Oni and Jotaro, they still may be a force to be reckoned with. Morokei tend to encompass vast creature types that are associated with evil or looked upon with suspicion by the Kaisu people. Generally ghosts and minor undead also fall under the Morokei as it is seen as a terrible omen or a curse for the dead to rise once more.

Dragon-Ogre

The Dragon-Ogres are large creatures, they are not too dissimilar in size from a regular Ogre but are larger and tend to be both stronger and smarter. The Dragon-Ogres wear armor not unlike that of the Kaisu people, though their weapons tend to favor their strength more than the likes of what the humanoids use. Hence their penchent for halberds, greataxes, warhammers, and greatswords. Weapons that function better with their size and strength and do not require as much dexterity to wield. The Dragon-Ogres are also incredibly tough and more often than not it takes the magic and power of several Samurai or similar individuals to bring one down.
