Shin "Bitey" Shuelgi was born on the colony Starside on Ganymede, one of Jupiter's many moons. Her childhood was uneventful, marked by the typical experiences of a lunar colony child: the rigors of education, the camaraderie of friends, and the occasional wonder at the vastness of space. As she grew older, Shuelgi harbored dreams of becoming a scoop pilot, the elite force responsible for navigating the treacherous gravitational fields and harvesting valuable resources. However, like most applicants, she failed the rigorous testing, her dreams dashed against the harsh reality of rejection.
Undeterred, Shuelgi enlisted in the Corporate Forces of Eclipse Entertainment. The corporation's military arm was known for its brutal efficiency and high-risk operations. She threw herself into her work with unrelenting determination, spending much of her compensation on boutique cybernetics to enhance her performance. Her augmented abilities propelled her to the top of her rank, and she shattered mission clearance records, earning a reputation as a formidable operative. Off the battlefield, Shuelgi indulged in the hedonistic lifestyle that her earnings afforded, gambling, seeking companionship, and experimenting with various inebriants. She worked hard and played even harder, finding a precarious balance between duty and excess.
It was during this period of her life that Shuelgi met Lieutenant Liam Stirsky, who would later become known as Captain Liam Midas. The two formed a highly effective partnership, their respective skills complementing each other perfectly. Their combined clearance rates were unmatched within Eclipse Entertainment, and they became legends within the corporate military, their exploits taking them from the scorching surface of Mercury to the frozen outskirts of Pluto.
Their unstoppable partnership met its most significant challenge on Phobos. They were assigned to dismantle an intellectual property theft ring that was illegally producing and selling bootleg music streams. The operation seemed routine until they discovered that the ring's leader was a Haruspex. During the confrontation, the Haruspex trapped Shuelgi in a nightmarish mental prison, forcing her to confront the extensive cybernetic modifications she had undergone. The psychic assault left her questioning her identity and self-worth, as she realized how much of her humanity she had sacrificed for metal and circuitry. Although Liam managed to kill the Haruspex and save her physically, the damage to Shuelgi's psyche was profound.
In the months following the incident, Shuelgi's life spiraled into despair. The activities she once enjoyed lost their appeal, and her missions became bitter reminders of her perceived loss of self. In a desperate search for meaning, she turned to the Perfected Path, a religion that preached the pursuit of biological perfection as the ultimate purpose of life. Rejecting her cybernetic enhancements, she resigned from Eclipse Entertainment and spent the last of her money having new organic parts cloned and surgically replacing her mechanical ones. Immersing herself in the study of ancient warrior philosophies from Earth, she sought to become the perfect warrior through rigorous training, gene treatments, and pharmaceutical enhancements.
Despite her efforts, Shuelgi struggled to find a new path in life. Financially strained and emotionally exhausted, she faced an uncertain future until Liam reentered her life. Now operating independently from the corporation, he offered her a place on his crew. Seeing an opportunity to redeem herself, Shuelgi accepted, driven by a misinterpreted belief from her studies: the pursuit of a "good death." She convinced herself that her purpose was to find an opponent capable of besting her in combat, believing that such a death would give her life meaning and closure.
As part of Liam's crew, Shuelgi dedicates herself to a purpose-driven life, seeking the ultimate challenge that would fulfill her quest. Her journey is one of redemption, identity, and the relentless pursuit of what she believes to be her destiny, navigating the complex interplay of her past, her beliefs, and the uncharted future ahead.
