Geoffrey Brigham is a businessman. Roots in the community and all that. Some say he's a crime boss, but he would scoff and vehemently disagree with that assessment. Geoffrey deals in legitimate business ventures. Nothing below the board. Every business venture he invests in is simple, ordinary commerce. He employs hundreds of poor souls struggling to make ends meet after that unfortunate War – from both sides. He believes he has done more for the noble cause of reunification of the two disparaging camps than the slow bureaucracy is capable of accomplishing. More efficiently, too. He is a staunch believer in liaise faire capitalism, and the fewer meddlers in his affairs, the faster he can get the 'Verse working and great again.
Now, what he won't bring to your attention is that the reason he would prefer a free hand is that while his ventures are great and wonderful causes and profitable ventures on the face, the methods and manners in which he operates those ventures, identifies new opportunities, and gains the advantage is not quite so noble and "above board", as the saying goes.
One might wonder what his relationship to one Mr. Badger might be in Eavesdown. Well, just as with any business in the districts, courtesies and polite agreements between entrepeneurs are paramount—as long as the key free market principle of fair competition is observed, of course. Challenges make the entire enterprise stronger, after all. And Mr. Brigham is happy to oblige sending competitors such as Mr. Badger a few extra challenges from time to time—very discretely of course. But he's not above working with him, either. But most of the time, he doesn't really regard Badger. Privately, he considers the Daytonite amateurish and interested in trivial endeavors, like smuggling and illegal salvage, so their businesses seldom intersect.
