Veelanavia

The country of Veelanavia is located in the north-eastern Aegeaon sea of Thaeria.
The country was once ruled by a number of feudal kings and queens, but back in the 4th age massed civil wars saw them deposed and replaced with an un-elected authoritarian council. This system was maintained during the The Andorian Empire, but during this period the council was largely seen as an honorary title and they held little power. Desire to retake control made Veelanavia one of the first countries of the Empire to rise up and force them out.
The hardy people of the country were not well rewarded for their efforts though. The council and the small inner circle of nobles that served them kept much of the acquired wealth for themselves, and the people faced centuries of cruelty, famine and poverty.
In the year 1722 A5 the city of Brakov was almost wiped out by a plague, and little help was sent from the then Capital of Orovia. At this time a group calling themselves the The Presidium of Undeath; a small conglomerate of undead lords who wanted to find a place they could settle and attempt to live out less tumultuous unlives, entered the city, and offered to assist. This assistance came in many forms, including the raising of skeletons and zombies to help to clean the city, the conversion of some important figures who were infected with the plague to vampirism and cures born from the deep knowledge of death the Presidium had. 
The opressed people of the city welcomed their knew overlords with open arms; for as much as they feared and mistrusted them, they had shown them more mercy than their previous rulers had. In the following decades the city flourished. The liches, detah lords and vampires of the Presidium were happy to accept donations of dead family members and blood in lieu of taxes and so the working underclasses were able to experience a quality of life they had never had before. Back breaking labour could now be done by mindless undead automatons, so each farmer, miner, lumberjack etc had an extra pair of hands to help them. There health improved, as dead their financial standing. 
News of the improving social conditions of the cities people began to spread south, and the previously wary villages and towns near Bakova started to cast of the shackles of the countries ruling classes and instead pledged themselves to the new undead rulers from the north. 
Orovia who had previously shown little interest in the Presidium's presence, so long as they kept themselves in Brakov declared war on them in 1768, and marched northwards to 'purge the undead menace'. Unfortunately they had mistaken the Undead councils lack of agression as a sign of weakness and their armies were crushed. By the time they had raised a replacement army of conscripts they found themselves being invaded by their own soldiers, raised from the battlefield by the very beings that defeated them. The Presidiums conquest stopped short of Orovia, allowing the living to retain control of it, but the previous ruling council were killed or turned and the country as a whole fell under the rule of the undead.
