The liches, vampire lords and death knights that came together to form Brakov had; like many undead, a very spotted history, but centuries of malevolent machinations and the resulting conflicts with heroes trying to stop them had worn them down. They had reached a point in their unlives where they only really wanted one thing anymore, peace. They originally formed Brakov as a haven for the undead who felt the same as they did and rescued many restless spirits, giving them a safe place to haunt, but it quickly became apparent that Orovia (the then capital) at the other end of Veelanavia was becoming restless, not least of all as the vampires still needed to feed, and the liches still needed corpses. Fortunately for them the country of Veelanavia had an enormous economic gap between the extremely wealthy ruling class and the extremely poor proletariat. The undead council offered the living populous of the nearby towns and villages a deal, they could live in Veelanavia, and instead of paying for the land and taxes with money they could instead do it with their bodies. Each month they were required to allow a vampire to feed upon them, and once their dead had been given their funerary rites the corpses would be handed over to the state. At first only a few took them up on their offer, but on seeing how much more prosperous those who did were many more followed. In panic Orovia declared war with Brakov in 3927, expecting assistance from their people and their allies. Unfortunately years of oppression had turned their populous against them, and years of self-centred politics had eroded all their old alliances. Orovia fell within in less than a year and Brakov was declared the new capital. Now the whole country is ruled by the undead, the armies are undead and much of the labour can be done by the undead. This has made the country very prosperous and the living populous are significantly better off then they were under Orovias rule. There are those amongst them who still stand against it, but they are in the minority. Unfortunately the powerful undead are still the same creatures they were before Brakov, and sometimes they get restless and power hungry. When the ranks of the undead armies swell, the nearby countries get nervous and prepare for war.
