The Ivanov War
The Ivanov war between The Larimar Concord and Veelanavia began in 3167. Nervousness about the presence of a country ran by the undead nearby led to tumultuous political and mercantile relations between the two countries.
Influence from the Ivanov Family; displaced nobles of Veelanavia claiming to be the next in line for the throne, was the main driving force behind Queen Distarna Karmaline IV decision to declare war, or at least that is what history would have us believe, but there was certainly a lot of pressure from the citizenry who had been made nervous by the anti-undead rhetoric of the Church of the Wheel.
The war lasted for 4 years. Beginning with naval conflict, Evermere's fleets easily bested those of Veelanavia, but invasion was difficult. Finding soldiers hardy enough to reliably charge an army of undead was challenging.
On the 7th of Amberfall 3168 Evermer's Griffin Lances captured the port town of Bakova allowing the fleet to land. From there began a 3 year war of attrition, every time Evermere's army would push out of their fortifications and capture more land, they would be beaten back by the tides of undead, many of whom had previously been their comrades. By the time the eventual truce was reached on the 22d Gloomreach 3171 they had only captured land surrounding Bakova, and the furthest they got was a village named Gothbrih, now little more than an abandoned fortification as a result of the war.
The Ivanov Family
The Ivanov family took most of the blame for the war. It ended in truce but only after many unsuccessful and bloody conflicts, and the crown needed somewhere to aim it's citizenry's ire.
It is believed by some that the family may still live in Evermere, all be it under a new name.
