History: Rommaco, a nation inspired by Greek, Roman, and Italian cultures, was the first to rise from the ashes of slavery and become a dominant world power. The spawn of Ynbris aided Humans in overthrowing the Elven conquerors and Rommaco eventually led the charge in the fight, using their expert diplomats, philosophers, and thinkers to rally the disparate human rebellions throughout Europa. After the Devastation, Rommaco's powerful navy brought trading, ideas, and wealth into their cultural centers and cities. However, their power waned due to political corruption and infighting. By 539 AD, the Republic was mired in politics and bureaucracy, on the brink of collapse until Isla, a female gorgon bard, rallied her people and reorganized the Republic into a deadly fighting force. She led Rommaco to stand side by side with its allies to defeat Martius, and now rules as the first Consular.
Client Race: Other Races , also known as the "Spawn of Ynbris", they a unique and integral part of the Republic of Rommaco, and they played a critical role in the struggle for freedom against their Elven oppressors. Despite being created by the goddess Ynbris, the spawn were largely indifferent towards her due to her inaction during the enslavement of their race. Instead, they worship heroes among themselves, raising them to demigod status and creating a pantheon of demigods whom all pay fealty to Ynbris instead. Throughout history, the spawn have been able to sidestep much of the genocide that has transpired due to their usefulness and power within the new human hierarchy. They now exist in many positions of power throughout the Republic, treating humans as they would their own race. This diversity has brought unity to the people of Rommaco, and the humans respect and love the spawn for their shared history of struggle under slavery and so unlike almost anywhere else in Europa, this is the one nation in which the non-human races are equal, if not more than, their human counterparts.
Leader: Isla of Serifos, the face that sunk a thousand ships
Source of Power: The source of Rommaco's power comes from its robust politics, culture, and philosophy. The Republic prides itself on its great thinkers, diplomats, and the ability to combine hundreds of unique cultures and peoples into something far greater than the sum of its parts. The Republic was once the most powerful nation in Europa thanks to its strong navy, and now it is rebuilding its navy to rival the merchant fleets of Arshadon and the warships of Natinal. The spawn of Ynbris bring a diversity of thoughts and abilities that only enhance the nation. They are integral to the Republic and this combination of culture, diversity, and philosophy has granted Rommaco its status as perhaps the most peaceful and beautiful nation in all of Europa. Its great thinkers and diplomats make it a sought-after ally and trading partner, and it seems to always resolve its growing border tensions through this power of diplomacy instead of violence as other nations might.
Religion: The Republic of Rommaco, despite being founded by the spawn of Ynbris, does not often worship their goddess, instead revering demigods and heroes who have played a significant role in the nation's history. The spawn bring diversity to the nation, enhancing its culture and way of life, with each of the races having one or more demigods they pay reverence to. rivaling
Capital: The capital of Rommaco, Vatiro , is a shining example of the Republic's wealth and power. Its grand design and impressive buildings echo those of great cities of the past empire at the height of its power. At the heart of Vatiro is the Senate, where the Republic's leaders meet to debate and govern. Philosophers and thinkers line the streets, preaching their ideas to eager listeners. The city is also a beacon of diversity, where humans and the spawn of Ynbris walk hand in hand, reflecting the shared history of struggle and freedom that brought them together. The warm ocean breeze blows in, creating a pleasant atmosphere that adds to the beauty of the city. The many grand temples of Vatiro are dedicated not just to Ynbris, but also to the many demigods and heroes that the people of Rommaco worship. The worship of Isla, in particular, is gaining popularity as more people add her to the pantheon of heroes who saved the Republic. Vatiro stands alone as a unique and beautiful city, embodying the ideals of the Republic and the diverse people who call it home.
History of Rommaco:
Age of Apostasy: During the Age of Apostasy, the land where the Republic of Rommaco would one day call home was nothing more than a territory of the Elves empire. The humans toiled endlessly in the fishing boats, trade ships and drydocks, working alongside many of the conquered Other Races who were children of Ynbris, the two races growing surprisingly close through their shared struggle under elven rule. Meanwhile, the spawn of Ynbris who were not enslaved worked behind the scenes, smiling at elven parties, funneling funds to revolutionary groups and more, preparing their nation for the day of freedom from the oppressive rule of the Elves. The slaves began sharing tales of heroes who stood up against tyranny, hoping to draw inspiration from them. The humans had their chainbreaker God while the spawn of Ynbris remained indifferent towards their Goddess Ynbris who had not come to save them from being conquered by the elves, and so they too turned to their own heroes and legends, raising them up to demigod status and worshipping them instead. It is possible that this was all part of Ynbris' plan, to create a pantheon of demigods to help her rival her more powerful siblings. Once The Devestation kicked off, that is exactly what happened, Ynbris was able to bring these demigods under her command and use the power and worship they had to defeat Martius once before deciding to surrender for unexplained reasons...
The Devastation: The hidden government of the Republic had been planning for this moment for years, striking the first blows of the war in secret as they took out their colonial oppressors. The spawn of Ynbris played a key role in distracting and hiding these events from elven eyes, able to play themselves off as allies against the murderous Humans but behind their backs they were just as out for elven blood as the humans for the enslavement of their people. As the first free nation of former slaves, Rommaco took on the responsibility of organizing and rallying the various human rebellions taking place all over Europa. They became the lynchpin in the genocidal war led by the Humans, using their expertise in diplomacy and strategy to bring together a coalition of the disparate groups to fight for their freedom. The spawn of Ynbris did not feel the same bloodlust that the humans felt as Martius was pushing his will onto his children, and so they managed to keep the coalition focused on the goal at hand, working hard to prevent themselves from getting caught up in the genocide. They knew that they were not safe from Martius and his armies, who saw them as abominations and a threat to his vision of a pure and unified Europa. So despite working so hard to free humans, they worked equally hard to ensure that when the dust settled, the Spawn of Ynbris held most positions of power within the newest and strongest nation in the world
Age of Armistice: After the tumultuous and violent Devastation, the Republic of Rommaco emerged as the strongest nation on the continent of Europa. The spawn of Ynbris, who had played a key role in organizing the human rebellions that ultimately led to victory, now turned their attention towards rebuilding and strengthening their new nation. They worked tirelessly to create a new form of government, one that would not repeat the mistakes of their former elven oppressors. They created a system of elected officials, with power divided among different branches and city-sates, and established a senate to ensure fair representation of all citizens, human or otherwise. Their efforts were rewarded as they were able to maintain their position as the dominant power in Europa for centuries to come. The Republic of Rommaco became known for their expert diplomats, philosophers, and thinkers, who continued to innovate and push the boundaries of knowledge. They resisted the urge to conquer and enslave as they had been conquered and enslaved, instead focusing on building their economy and cultural influence, becoming a shield that fostered and protected those nations that were still recovering from the fight for freedom. One of the keys to Rommaco's continued success was their powerful navy. With a vast network of trading ports and colonies throughout the world, they were able to bring in wealth and ideas from far-flung lands. Their cultural centers and cities became beacons of knowledge, attracting scholars, artists, and thinkers from across the globe. However, as time went on, political corruption and infighting began to erode the foundations of the Republic. Incompetent politicians rose to power, and the government became increasingly corrupt. Slowly but surely, Rommaco fell back to the level of its neighbors, losing its position as the preeminent power in Europa. Nevertheless, the legacy of the Republic of Rommaco would live on, with their innovations in government and philosophy inspiring countless generations to come.
Year 539AD: Rommaco was facing a crisis unlike any other. The Republic was mired in political corruption and bureaucratic inefficiency, its bloated government was unable to react properly to the growing threat posed by the Cult of Martius. The city-states were voting to leave the Republic, and the once-great nation was on the brink of collapse. It was at this moment that Isla a female gorgon bard, emerged as a leader. Isla reminded her people of their former glory and their place in history as the first and greatest of the free nations. She rallied her people and took control of the senate as the first Consular. She reorganized its people into a deadly fighting force that was able to stand side by side with its allies to defeat Martius. Now, Isla rules over Rommaco, making sure the checks to her power remain in place despite calls for her to declare herself Empress. She seeks to have the Republic grow back to its old size and power again, which has recently brought her into conflict with her neighbors about borders, sea lanes, and so on. Most of the time, she is able to resolve these with her eloquence, but it won't work forever. Despite the challenges she faces, Isla remains a beacon of hope for her people. She is a skilled diplomat and a charismatic leader, able to inspire her people to greatness even in the darkest of times. Her rule has brought stability to Rommaco and ensured that the Republic will endure for many years to come.
