The most prominent feature of Sire Matthieu is due to a magical item he possesses known as the Cat Eyes of Avarice , which give his eyes their signature golden hues and allow them to glow in the dark. It is known that they can see through almost any magical disguise.

The history of Sire Matthieu is convoluted and shrouded in mystery. According to all sources involved, he is simply a dealer of secrets and sin in equal measure. It is very nearly certain that Matthieu is not his real name, considering his trade and the obvious fact that he does not exist in any known records of the Empire, Garden or Holy Lands. A known associate of The White Host, The Partnership , and The Elion Dynasty in equal measure, the man appears to hold no allegiance or scruples about who he works with nor their goals. He is known to own several "Dens of Sin" around the primary continent of tether, operating with bold efficiency in regards to the skirting of law and public morals.
His schemes during the Borisov Insurrection were largely involved with his own personal gain in regards to the poking and prodding of the adventuring party for various favors and dirty deeds. This was all done with the ideal objective of defaming the group into public enemies, thusly giving his secret alter-ego of Gaius Elion V the legal leeway he needed to pursue his own objectives of control.
