Mammon, Arch-Devil of Greed, Lord of the Sixth

The Avaricious, The Lord who Craves, The Wealthy, The Ever-Hungry, The Devouring Avidity, The Golden Miser

Coin. Such a simple thing, these discs of metal. Yet within them is contained all the promise of the world. A shimmer of silver can open doors; the glitter of gold spills secrets like water. From the most powerful court to the lowliest hovel, money shapes this Mortal Realm as effectively as magic and the Dark Gods offer a path to both. Power and wealth beyond imagining. That is what Mammon and his followers proclaim to all, for it is the truth of the realms. Ever since the mere idea of trading goods for services came into being, Mammon was born. At first he was but a god of bartered deals, but ever since coins began to be made, he has become obsessed with these discs of power and grandeur. Having wealth isnt enough, it is the endless pursuit of obtataining more and more of what one wants, and letting others go without that brings Mammon the most joy. Unlike his lord-kin, he is a paranoid god, prone to flight rather than staying in battle, for he is ever suspicious that even his most loyal servants and generals scheme and plot to steal his horde. He has a horde that would put a dragon to shame, and it is said there is so much gold there that if one were to somehow end up in the vault, they would at best go blind from the light, or just simply disintergrate on the spot.   In truth, this Arch-Devil is one of the most worringly powerful, but the Dark Lord and ruler of the Hells wisely placed a failsafe into his very being when he was made into an Arch-Devil. For as much wealth as he collects, his "soul" or rather his "being" goes hunngry. His followers reflect this, as even with all the wealth in the world there soul feels empty and almost sad. The only way to drown out the maddening depression is to never stop collecting wealth, and so he always has demons depositing and offering gold and trinkets to him to please him. He is greedy, but can also be generous, and those that please him are rewarded with power unimagined. However, he is paranoid, and if the gift is not pleasing, he has them slain and hteir soul obliterated completly, for they must be trying to get closer to his vault.   He resides in the sixth layer of the hells, a realm known as Karoth, and it is a line of gold and mines searching for more wealth. His personal abode is the Avarkan Palace, which has a labryinth said to be the size of whole continenets lying before it. This maze is cruely laid with the worst traps and monsters of most despicable temperment one can think of to prevent intruders. His palace is of the most oppuleant, with every last bit of furniature and wall festooned with gold and healdry and other symbols of wealth and power. His court is more like an emperors throne room, with suitors who have spent aeons traveling the maze to petition him for things or gift him items of power. He only breifly sits on his throne, for his paranoid nature means his second must look to most matters, but he is always looking ever onward, seeing what else he can add to his impossible collection. If he could, he would even pluck the very stars out of the night sky to add to his horde. Who's to say he can't?
