Deadlands
A land of the supernatural, and where the dead don't stay dead
Geography
Large swamps dot the land. Other places are heavy forests with lots of vegetation, and beats lurking in the dark. The few open plains around the area are some of the few places civilization can grow, if grow is the right word for it. The lands are poor for farming, and the citizens just barely get by with food in the lands, hunting proving ot be a far more...dangerous profession here then in other places.
Localized Phenomena
The land is cursed beyond belief. The dead have a high chance of not staying dead in these parts, no matter how many spells or runes are chanted, the curses do not go away. The land is also given a curse where whenever the moon is out, it gives off a pale red glow, thus the light of the pale bloodmoon damns the land with its baleful glow. Even during the day, its always grey and gloomy, but decreased undead activity occurs doing the day. Another worrying phenomena is many of the citizens born here are born with small mutations, be it an extra finger, softly glowing teeth, clammy skin, odd lumps under the skin, webbed toes, shifting scars, and other such small annoyances.
Fauna & Flora
Many undead creatures inhabit these parts. Other creatures are creatures long since corrupted by the dark and twisted energies of the land.
History
Long ago the lands were known as the lands of Ayeth. The Kingdom of Vunao ruled over these lands with an iron fist, and with this iron fist the people worked hard lives, but well protected. No one entirely knows when or how, but at some point a couple of druids got together and offered to make the lands twice as fertile to better up the profits for the kingdom. The king was overjoyed and granted them the ability to conduct the ritual. However, something went wrong, and the lands soon died, the castle was overtaken by cursed vines, killing all of the royal nobility, the druids were killed as well. Soon the lands became cursed, while not all of the vegetation died, the lands would prove to be almost impossible to farm in. So it was for years that no one would hear anything from the lands of Ayteh, no travelers could come from there and traders stayed clear of the area as they reported a "ominous atmosphere" was present. What is known is that sometime after, trade would resume, but the people from Ayeth would only refer to it as "the dead lands", and none of them would ever be as talkative as they once were with outsiders. In fact, they almost had a resentment for the rest of the world. The new noble of the land were odd in they rarely came out at night, and were all unusually pale. Fears would later be realized as they were none other then Vampires, come to establish a home for themselves. Even after the Crusade of Light, the vampires remain, ruling over their living cattle and servants with their armies of the undead and their infinite cunning. While the vampires have largely been content to respect the treaties signed after the crusade, many are scared for what dark plans they have for the future
Tourism
There is no tourism. While occasionally you'll have people leave the lands, sometimes living and sometimes dead, no one enters here without a specific goal. This is mostly adventures foolish enough to seek gold and riches, or monster hunters looking to hunt beasts in their grim quest for gold and vengeance.
