William 'Bastard Bill' Rivers
William Rivers (a.k.a. Bastard Bill)
William Rivers was an Areso-Terstener from Dowerbridge who served as an officer in the Tersten Army, during the Unitarian occupation of Tersten. He was a member of the Unitarian Party, and was considered a populist, loyal to the ideas of the Consul by those who knew him. Following the collapse of the People's Republic of Lordania, Rivers refused to surrender to the Republic of Tersten, becoming leader of a pro-Unitarian movement in the southern Duliajan area. He took control of the island of Buckingham in 47PC, and declared an independent state. He was killed during the Siege of Buckingham, when the Tersten Army enacted heavy-handed suppression tactics, spearheaded by the Tersten Rangers. Despite his pro-Unitarian beliefs, he is widely regarded by the Areso-Tersteners as somebody who fought the law and lost.
While the Rangers tried to prevent his martyrdom by destroying his body, this has not stopped many underground pro-Unitarians from establishing hidden memorials on Buckingham Island. Following his death, parts of his pro-unitarian beliefs have been downplayed, largely by people off-world, who romanticise the image of the outlaw over that specific outlaw's actual beliefs.
