Saltburn Salt Corporation
Saltburn Salt Corporation is Tersten's largest salt extraction company. It operates from the small town of Saltburn, on the western shores of Peckham Lake. The company was formed in 3 PC by Pinasc entrepreneur and prospector J. R. Sandwich, who settled Saltburn with his family and with the assistance of the Pinascimate Penal Authority. Between 4 and 9 PC, convicts were brought to work in the mines, under various enslaved labour schemes devised by Eckhart Zannholt, the first Superintendent of the Penal Authority. This was met with widespread condemnation from outside the PPA and from several voices within. After the death of Zannhold, convict labour was significantly cut back, and the SSC began to employ skilled labourers, though they were often underpaid and with minimal safety laws.
After the collapse of the Penal Authority, the establishment of the Pinascimate Republic led to the introduction of much needed and well wanted labour laws, prohibiting and restricting many corporations that had taken advantage of the Penal Authority's lax laws. Since then, the SSC has been neutered, with J. R. Sandwich selling off the corporation and retiring some years prior to the founding of the People's Republic of Lordania. While Sandwich retired a wealthy man, the new owners of the SSC found themselves part of the Tersten State, which nationalised most of Tersten's industries, placing them under the control of various cronies and criminals with ties to the Government.
Like with many corporations post-PRL, the Saltburn Salt Corporation was privatised by the Republic of Tersten, where it continues to operate to the modern day.
