Imperial Black Lung
The over extraction of coal under the Imperium Valianum, and the consequences of rapid industrialisation of its major urban centers. The cities of Coalspring, Peace Valley, and Shank all suffered. Those that spent prolonged time either in the mines, or breathing in the thick dust, often developed conditions similar to black lung, something that plagued humanity over 300 years prior, but had long-since been forgotten about. The resulting condition, now known as Imperial Black Lung, affected most, if not all miners in the region, and a significant portion of working class individuals.
It was only after the collapse of the Imperium Valianum, in 48 PC, that aid workers were able to identify the full extent of the condition. By 49 PC, the Valianic Pollution Crisis had come to an end, and those suffering from the condition started to get the help they needed. While no new cases have been identified in modern Valian for many years, it is not uncommon for independent and off-the-record mining operations to contract the condition.
