New Reet City

Demographics

NRC's population is very mixed, attracting many peoples and species due to the booming industry, city jobs, and modern lifestyle. Gnomish, human, and dwarvish species are the most common, as well as a fairly large number of mixed-species individuals.

Districts

by thouartodd
NRC is broken out into 5 Outer Districts and 8 Inner Districts as well as a collection of farms surrounding the Whiskerwhip Marsh. Below are the high-level breakdowns of each section as well as some notable features & locations within each.

Inner Districts

Central Market
The large commercial district in the center of the city, often the focal location of holiday markets.
Grand Market
The largest commercial district in the city, located to the north, northeast.
  • Blockstyles: printing company, specializing in popular literature and children's books
  • Vermo's Printing: printing company, specializing in high-end, high profile, and corporate printing
  • Twinned Ink: printing company, specializing in bulk, official and academic documents

Non-District Interior Sections

NRC's interior also contains several non-district-zones.
Reet University for Greater Learning
Reet University for Greater Learning, also called RUGL, is the nation’s first organized liberal arts and adventuring educational facility.
City Hall
Barrcook Gardens
Kintower Park
The Westwatch tower and the Eastwatch tower (collectively referred to as the Kintowers) stand in the northwest and southeast of the park.

Outer Districts

Outside the walls that surround the inner districts are 5 outer districts built on partially artificially created land, filled in as the city expanded. The outer districts tend to be home to a majority of the city's lower income, factory-working, and blue collar residents, due both to the proximity of the many factories and warehouses as well as the lower cost of living outside the city walls.
Atwater
  • Factories 13-22
  • Warehouses 16-31
Marshmoss Bluffs
Marshmoss Slopes
Northtown
  • Warehouses 32-40
Northtown Beach
Southtown

Outskirts

While not within the city-proper, some portion of the surrounding land is considered within the NRC greater area.
  • Berrymeadow Farm
  • Saltlick Range
  • Westwind Farm
  • Whiskerwhip Flats

Architecture

Verticality is key when it comes to architecture and construction in New Reet City. Built on a landmass in the center of the large Whiskerwhip Marsh, there was only so much room for expansion outwards before the only direction left was up.   As the population within the walls grew, the housing and other construction spread across the land up to the limits of the walls. At this point large infrastructure development projects had also begun, roads, gutters, and sewers among them. The earth excavated from the sewer construction and other land leveling projects was moved to fill in and widen the land bridges as well as create an artificial extension of the land outside the walls. These extensions now hold the outer wall districts, creating housing, business, and factory space cheaper than those inside the walls.   Inside the walls, the city started building upwards. Single and double floor housing still exists but far and few between. Most districts are made up of closely constructed stone and/or wood housing of 3 to 5 floors and multiple families and/or businesses. The Marble Steps district has the highest concentration of single family homes in the city, from brownstones to full estates of multiple buildings and private grounds.

Geography

NRC map
by thouartodd
A wall was built around the landmass near the original limits as a protective measure against incursions across unguarded sections of the marsh. Several land bridges were formed by damming sections of the marsh from each other and filling islets between the central and outer land. There are now 5 land bridges leading in and out of the city.   NRC is completely surrounded by the Whiskerwhip Marsh.
