Caipos looked across the shattered marketplace with a trembling body. At the level of the fountain, he saw Priscil, who was now being tackled by two Lortans at the same time and was defending herself against his abilities with constant streams of bluish power. Around the elongated table, a group of Mauro, Kanta and Krobat had set about taking down one of the Lortans with constant attacks. A shallow shiver slid down the boy's spine and forced him to whirl around, just in time to see the golden sword of a fourth Lortan hurtling towards him. He sank to his knees, pressed his upper body almost parallel to the ground and let the blade glide over him.

Lortan snarled and whirled the weapon around, ready to make a second attack. The dagger was gone, Caipos had played right into Corvo's hands, but now was not the time to dwell on that defeat. He had to fight, here and now. This was the wrong place for hesitant thoughts. He wanted to see Siira again, to embrace his beloved sister once more in peaceful times. He didn't want to lose anyone present, not even Priscil should fall against this enemy and there was no way he would allow Krobat's death.

In a burst of courage and determination that Cai had rarely felt, he let out a fierce battle cry. Possibly the loudest sound the boy had ever made came from his throat as bolts of pure power and determination seemingly traveled through his body. Wild and powerful yet controlled energy surged from his core, shattering the chains of restraint that normally held him. From the core of his being, he pushed all life energy outwards. More energy, much much more. The scream reached its unchecked climax at the same time as a wild spectrum of color seemed to burst forth from his own skin.

Lortan reached him once more, rearing up to his full height and bringing the golden sword down with all his might. Cai's senses sharpened to the absolute maximum. He sensed every fragment of the aura that surrounded him. Turn your innermost self outward, manifest your true self! Do it now! His gaze met that of the divine being above him, simultaneously as the sword met a greenish sheath that manifested all around the boy, neutralizing the blow. A grin crossed the boy's face, distorted by exertion. A dragonfly, hmm?.

The Aurarians exist as long as the powers of energies are known as such. With the first appropriations, which gave humans control over life energy, the first Aurarians emerged among them. Their ability to manipulate the aura, the mixture of life energy and mind energy that emanated from their bodies, gave them the gift of an astonishing knowledge of human nature, but also the ability to hide their own intentions and goals brilliantly. In this sense, however, Aurarans are also among the weaker of the empowered in terms of sheer combat prowess. Instead, they are often employed in legal instances or act as a mental and emotional shield for public figures. Within the three castes of life energy-derived empowerments, Aurarans are among the rarest, and as such their abilities and possible variations on these powers have been the least studied.

Combat Alchemists, on the other hand, have the widest range of options to draw from their powers, but their powers are also some of the most difficult to master. Aurarians, on the other hand, are not only rare, but their powers are probably also the most difficult to learn. Expanding their abilities is not only done by improving the pure manipulation of life energy, but especially on a social level. An Aurarian must learn to read the aura of those around them, not to suppress their own emotions, but rather to act them out in a controlled manner. The true power of an Auraran is only revealed to those who are willing to reflect on themselves and risk a true look into their own inner life, even if they don't like the picture.

As previously mentioned, the powers of the Aurarans are so based on emotions and social situations that true development can only take place for those who are willing to truly get to know themselves. In doing so, their influence grows, not only on their own emotions, but also their ability to read other beings and control the impression they leave on others. However, the powers of Aurarians can also grow in terms of fine manipulation. Due to the spherical structure of the aura that surrounds the body, the transformation of aura into manifested objects and weapons is second nature to them. While these objects may not have the most penetrating power, they are still the most precise energetic creations.

Just like other types of Empowered, Aurarians are able to accelerate their life energy in the form of small projectiles and use it as a weapon. They have a relatively below-average penetrating power, but can theoretically last longer due to the link to mind energy and therefore have a longer range. The true strength of the Aurarians is revealed within the fine manipulations. Due to the long time their energy lasts, they can maintain complex forms and use them effectively. In addition, they can draw their aura around themselves like a kind of armor without expending large amounts of their body's own energy.

Purpose Manipulation

The Aurarians' purpose manipulations primarily involve reading and manipulating emotions. However, a few of their powers are also useful in direct confrontations once averting combat has failed.

Reading emotions: The most basic ability of Aurarians outlines the ability to read the emotions of nearby people from their aura. With this ability, they can tell if someone is hiding something, clearly lying, or keeping dishonest motives to themselves. In the same way, however, these abilities can also be used to confirm the truthfulness of statements.

Reading intentions: Basically an ability that is similar to reading emotions, but instead of recognizing emotions and feelings, it recognizes the impulses of mind energy that travel through the aura and reveal what actions a target is likely to perform next. Basically, Aurarians are able to detect tiny muscle contractions before the target can perform their full action.

Hiding Emotions: The Aurarian also hides his own emotions by suppressing his own aura, making it much more difficult to see through them.

Overwhelm aura: A heightened form of the art of manipulating an alien aura is the ability to fully overpower it, thereby limiting an enemy's ability to act. Basically, the waves of mind energy in the aura are suppressed by the user's aura to prevent any processes from starting, which can almost completely paralyze the target.

Inner Truth: Inner Truth is arguably the Aurarian's highest art when it comes to pure difficulty. In this case, an Aurarian simultaneously performs a Fine Manipulation and a Purpose Manipulation, in which they manipulate their entire aura at once and manifest it as a living being. According to the Aurarians, they are not able to choose this form freely, but their aura seems to give this specific manipulation a form on its own. However, they all speak of a kind of identification with the living being as well as a feeling of familiarity that they associate with this being.

Aurarians fall into a similar spot as Oracle, although they are better at taking care of themselves. Thanks to the manipulation of life energy, they are not helpless against enemies in direct conflict, but they work best when more offensive fighters have their backs. Their ability to manipulate emotions on the battlefield allows them to effortlessly turn a situation around. However, Aurarians primarily thrive in social situations, it is difficult to deceive them and even more difficult not to be deceived by them, but this social superiority also results in a certain arrogance and overconfidence in their powers.
