The Purgatory Furnace

Theodore Jiang (a.k.a. The Purgatory Furnace)

Profile
Huojin "Theodore" Jiang, The Purgatory Furnace. He bears an ability born from an impressive façade, one that contained so much for so long. His earliest memories were that of miraculously surviving the wilderness. This lasted until he found refuge at the house of a kind woman who he visited more and more often as time passed, this person being quite talented at teaching a near feral Theodore much of what a child is taught, as well as giving him his name, even giving him her surname. Becoming practically family to this woman she resolved to raise him as her own, all she had now also being his. Though this companionship wasn't slated to last as she passed away tragically, albeit without regret. This disheartening instance, along with great grief, is also what led to Theodore learning just who this woman was, and that he was her sole benefactor. Being raised as a hunter and eventual inheritor of a great position by the wyverian division he belongs to, he's inherited the stern characteristics befitting of one such individual. His outward demeanor and preceding reputation radiates the sense of discipline and respectability which encroaches upon royalty.

Though these presented characteristics do not come as naturally to him as it seems. Very quick to anger and easily irritated, his sensitivity and ill-temper is only matched by his immaculate level of self-control. His composure is a sight to behold when taking into account the inferno that is usually behind his still veneer. His ability and the work he's done to temper his abrasive and choleric tendencies are undoubtedly praise-worthy.
Despite the trouble he goes through due to his short-fuse, it has also granted him a keen sense of those around him, able to quickly figure people out and acclimate himself accordingly. This astute but bashful empathy paired with the sensitivity of an artist has built him to be quite well-intentioned, though are often and accidently slathered with a crude layer of aggression, whose misunderstanding of leads to greater irritation and such is his usual rage spiral. Precious few have been exposed to what's beyond iron-clad professional façade, and even fewer chose to stay by his side regardless, but even with what little he has beyond his skill and wealth, he's happy, as lavish wealth or great power were never once a desire.

Without his remnant, his ability is called "Blast Embers", an EM, and allows him to store and amplify his body heat, then release his accumulated thermal energy as highly compact and volatile particles that resemble embers. These embers can be modified to contain more or less heat to adjust the explosive power or their reactivity. They can be weighted and settle like dust or remain airborne and carried by the wind. A secondary effect granted by this ability is his immense resilience towards heat and flames as he remains unscathed by explosions. His remnant, Chiyou, was born from the desire to burn away his impurities and his weakness no matter the awaiting tribulations of this path of refinement.
Chiyou, The Forge
The master of this remnant has moved past the emotions that initially birthed it, and now serves as a reminder of a past where he was once disgusted by all the impurity and weakness he seen in himself and wished to burn all of it away in purifying flames. This remnant wraps itself in a hellish inferno whose heat slowly burns away anything its master's metallurgy deems impure and only contributing to weakness. This remnant was unsure if its master will ever find their refinement satisfactory or even what exactly is fueling this furnace, it's forge at risk of devolving into a mere incinerator. This remnant once wondered if what it's master deems an impurity even is impure, and if their flames continues to roar, will even ashes remain, as true purity is nothing at all. But it may now burn away its worry as its master flame has been tamed, now understanding that one cannot cast metal with a flawless plate.

Chiyou's appears to manifest as a large metal shield with a golden lion and flame insignia that resembles an ancient steel door, and like one, beyond it being a crucible of roaring flame and molten metal where this remnant resides. Chiyou's true form is an avatar made of fire and molten metal, resembling a lion bound by ignited chains and unable to fully leave the scorching space behind the metal shield.
Its unbound ability, "Purgatory Furnace" is the forge within Chiyou's shield, able to use the heat and metal from it to cast black steel weapons it can freely manipulate or plunge targets into this space to incinerate within its flame and liquid metal
Style and Abilities

Theodore's offensive capabilities are quite impressive, but his true strength lies in his defense and intuitive reactions. He's skilled at both evasion and deflection to avoid the major blunt of many attack while retorting with his own counter attacks. This is due to his perceptivity, since to him, enemy movements are often very predictable and he can plan accordingly as fast as he can recognize the act. Fighting against him can be described as increasingly uncomfortable since Theodore often turns the surrounding area into a literal mine field as he scatters his explosive embers, and every failed strike runs the risk of being reduce to ash. Maneuverability becomes quite difficult in close quarters and one isn't even guaranteed safety at range as he's an excellent marksman and can quickly close distances via explosive propulsion. All this doesn't even take into account Chiyou, who supplies are myriad of tools to further constrict and eliminate.

Navigating around him is for sure troublesome, but does have a few exploitable characteristics. His combat style is heavily reliant on an impenetrable defense followed by a vicious counterattack and this heavy reliance causes inflexibility and a lack of adaptability. His intuition isn't infallible, adept mobility, unpredictability and deception can break his focus and knock him "off-balance" which creates blind spots in his defenses. A skilled opponent may even abuse his rather stubborn techniques with adaptability as he's quite susceptible to his own approach. Knowing when to defend forces him to initiate an attack, and in doing so he leaves himself defenseless, or a smart offence paired with skilled reflex can leave him no opportunity for counterattack, and any attempt to will again leave him open. The natural counter to his "one of the two extremes" style is balance and adaptability. Another odd weakness of his is a great vulnerability to the cold, him unable to properly amplify or use his temperature in frigid conditions.

Physical Description

Body Features

His wyverian trait grants him dark horns atop his head and two small protruding fangs on him lower jaw giving him a slight underbite.

Special abilities

His ability is used quite strategically, less used as a direct weapon but instead a very effective deterrent, limiting an opponents options and placing them in disadvantageous positions where they are forced to play his game. His effective use of his embers allows him to control the flow of battle, keeping all opponents exactly where he wants them to be while any objection to his rule is met with explosive repercussions. He can customize certain aspects of his embers, such as their explosive strength, weight, density, reactivity, location of deployment and other minute details. Though, he only holds dominion on their creation, unable to move or detonate them at will and must be done manually, usually firing blanks of air to push embers around or striking together the back of his blades and to cause a chain reaction of explosions. Embers are not the only tool granted by his ability, as he has learned to utilize Chiyou's forge as-well. Theodore often forges chains with a variety of attachments, these chains can be used to constrain opponents or tether and grapple them or the surroundings, the chains emerging from its furnace being super heated as well. Chiyou's furnace is perpetually lit and only extinguished when dematerialized, its interior space is quite small and may be used as storage as long as the object being stored can survive melting temperature and as such rarely utilized. Lastly, though Chiyou only has one body, it can manifest multiple of its shield-gates, able to deploy its cast weapons from any of them or itself emerge from one.

Specialized Equipment

His signature weapon are twin bladed air rifles. Able to shift between two forms, its blade form resemble a short-handled Miao Dao with a flint-lined back the produces sparks when struck together, but when in its secondary rifle form, the blade segments and extends to form the barrel while the handle curves slightly into a grip and the blade's telescopic guard releases the trigger and bolt while projecting out into the chamber. The rifle is designed to fire bullets of compressed embers and as such utilizes pressurized air, as gunpowder or the such would just detonate the bullet, and recompressing of air is as simple as whipping the the blade upwards and downwards, the flick also triggers the bolt-action. Theodore wields the two blades with expertise and as long as he has generated heat, he can produce explosive ammunition for them. Theodore also wears cleated footwear that has been friction padded as to avoid being blown away with his explosions.

History

Their affiliation was actually mutual. Theodore sought Myeru as his skill in management and business was imperative given his situation as new and unexperienced head of a powerful company, seeking a temporary merger with the Hadal Conglomerate in order to maintain the company. Despite the many rumours of of Myeru exploiting Theodore's inexperience for greater influence, he simply wanted Theodore's companionship and is pleased that he's able to help him too, managing Theodore's company with utmost integrity with the intent to break the merger should Theodore ask. Theodore, as an apprentice to Myeru in hunting and business has become very capable in a professional and combative setting where Myeru is simply glad to have some company in his small hunter division.

History

Tedric was a part of Myeru's division before Theodore was, so he was became quite used to Tedric's presence when with Myeru, this however does not mean either have them have become accustomed with each other's antics. Theodore's composure and Tedric's self-confidence are often seen as haughty to each other, Tedric is one of the few people who can pry apart Theodore's poise while Theodore's mere presence can incite an overt eye-roll from Tedric, seeing him a sanctimonious rich boy (despite Theodore only having access to modest wealth)

History

Oda was the latest addition to Myeru's personal division following Theodore, Oda seeing and describing him and Tedric and the cool upper-huntsmen to look up to, professionals who've reach the heights of their craft whose mere presence demands respect. However in practice, Theodore is usually ends up one of the victims of Oda's eccentricities, even him being unimmune to Oda's blackhole-like capacity to pull people into his shenanigans. Despite Theodore's usual expressions of chagrin, Oda's great respect for him isn't one-sided, Theodore having a great, but bashfully hidden, admiration for Oda, born from the first time Theodore caught a glimpse of Oda while painting.   Theodore watched as all of Oda's caprice, joviality, and seeming naivete not disappear, but culminate into a quiet and humble dignity, no pride, no doubt, just joy. At first Theodore thought to describe it as if Oda had became another person, but upon greater contemplation, it'd be truer to describe this as Oda's expression at its purest, where everything clicked into place and the entirety of Oda, as a person, made complete sense. Theodore has only ever seen this pinnacality of the self in one other person, that being Myeru, and this has earned Theodore's respect, making Oda's antics a bit more bareable, but only slightly.
