Scarlet Homurabami, The Nightmare Flame. He bears an ability born from fear of the unknown and desire for an escape. He possesses a troubled past, originally a powerful monster born from Id who once terrorized many, Scarlet once brought destruction and loss with every performance meant to prolong the scarlet heart by a cycle of constant reincarnations to flee death and it's unknown after. By chance or miracle, the latest reincarnation, born to be nothing more than another vessel rebelled and ended the twisted attempt at immortality, the latest of the the lineage of Id was Scarlet, ultimately ending in the development his own soul, he's currently a human remnant in every aspect except his origin.
Scarlet is very earnest person, albeit quite scatterbrained and having difficulty focusing most of the time. Though slightly timid and awkward at times, he's rather friendly and sincere, people finding his lack of pretense and ulterior intention to be quite refreshing. Despite this, there are two things that can earn his complete focus, games and combat. One shouldn't conflate his ditzyness with unintelligence, as when truly focused people can be taken aback by his perceptiveness, cunning, and intelligence. When somethings on the line, regardless of whatever it is, reveals a very cutthroat side to him, not that he hides this aspect of him, simply that not much flips the switch. By no means is he cruel nor win hungry, but at these times his kindness makes way for ruthlessness.
Without his remnant, his ability is called "Wandering Flame" and allows Scarlet instantly transport anything consumed in his scarlet fire to the location of another be it object, people or himself. He can quickly generate this scarlet flame and engulf his surroundings to teleport or attack. Though one must we wary, one Scarlet decides which of his flames become a portal to another, and one may find themselves accidentally throwing themselves into a ravenous fire instead and be burnt to ash. Flames that are not portals still act like a strong fire, burning and spreading. His remnant, Grimm, was born from his rebellion and resolve to face the unknown after.
Grimm, The Nightmare
The master of this remnant had once wished to never disappear, so it once put on a grand performance that would never end so they can dance in the light of the scarlet flame and to the beating of the nightmare heart. But now both it and its master know that this can no longer continue, knowing this will be their closing night, both will relish this final performance.
Grimm manifests as a large cloaked figure with thin spindly appendages and a crescent shaped head. Its large cloak is black on the outside but scarlet on the inside. This cloak can be manipulated like appendages and are very flexible, forming razor edges or long spikes.
The unbound ability, Scarlet Gamble, allows Grimm to covert vitality into poker chips. These poker chips can be used to create a variety of bladed weapons weapons that can steal the vitality of anyone they injure, the strength of this effect as well as the strength of the weapon is dictated by the amount of chips used to create it.
Style and Abilities
In terms of physical strength, Scarlet is an active threat, able to easily traverse the field. Scarlet is able to keep Grimm out for long periods of time allowing to fight alongside him. Grimm and Scarlet can use all manifested weapons skillfully but seems to have an aptitude for using scythes and daggers, while Grimm mainly uses fire and it's cloak as its main source of offense. Though Scarlet has skilled command over his flames, he's mostly a weapons master and focuses on armed combat while using his flames as a medium for his absurd mobility. He's also very intuitive when it comes to combat knowledge as well as risks, knowing when to go all in and when to fold.
Scarlet is a very difficult opponent in both open and closed spaces with seemingly no exploitable weaknesses, the only way to beat him is to simply outclass him, but even so, his life-stealing abilities can cause cascades that brings this to his favour. Scarlet's combat is all about taking risks and reaping rewards as he literally gambles with his life. The most effective tactic to best him is to target his often overlooked weakness, stamina. His abilities are more directed to end conflicts quickly, leaving him vulnerable to drawn out battles where attrition becomes a greater factor. Though the individual uses of his abilities don't appear to leave any lasting impact, the very nature of his ability leaves him very susceptible to the compounding stress of each consecutive use more so than others. Also as with most games of wagers, psychological warfare more so with him than others.
Due to his ability, his maneuverability is nigh-unmatched and has an arsenal of weapons at his disposal, as well as a powerful flame under his command. His scarlet fire can remain lit very far distances from him allowing him to to travel large distances very quickly but can be extinguished like a normal flame. The size of the flame doesn't limit what can be transported through it, and Grimm can generate scarlet flames as well. His teleportation does require open space, unable to teleport to locations that cannot accommodate the size of whatever is being transported. With Grimm's ability, the strength of the created weapon's life-steal grows in proportion to the chips spent. The activation of the life-steal requires direct critical-hits, scratches, grazes, and blocked attacks wont take any vitality, in addition, there is a difference to Scarlet's chips and stolen vitality chips. The vitality taken from other's can only be used to create new weapons, and do not replenish Scarlet's stamina though that's where he must initial draw chips from. Stolen vitality is also transient and will vanish if left unused for long enough. All of the equipment summoned by Grimm appear to consist of a sturdy black glass-like material that though can be quite sharp, is also brittle and prone to cracking when placed under enough strain, at which the vitality used to create is completely lost. This arsenal seems to be limited to a few basic bladed weapons such as daggers and swords, but also a large scythe seemingly being Grimm and Scarlet's signature weapon.
Scarlet's unique combat style revolves around out-maneuvering opponent and overwhelming them. He's rather skilled at surprise attacks and ambush tactics designed to quickly get in and out. He can easily teleport short distances without using existing flames by quickly generating but a spark and immediately teleporting through it. His abilities have the potential to be very costly, and at mint fighting condition, Scarlet has vitality equal to 150 chips, while he's capable of holding up to 100 chips worth of stolen vitality. His manifested equipment are very powerful in terms of offensive capabilities, but very lacking in durability. His weapoins are much more effective for offence then defense as their brittle composition makes them easy to break, especially weak to blunt weapons and durable armor as they may even shatter against an opponent's defense. Despite their being a difference between Scarlet's personal vitality and stolen vitality, he can use the latter to replenish the former, though the 2/3rds of the vitality is lost when doing so, thus its often more efficient to to use stolen vitality to create weapons.
