The Eventide

Merlo Lucio (a.k.a. The Eventide)

Profile
Merlo Lucio, The Eventide. He bears an ability born from duality and the tacit knowledge that there is far more than meets the eye. He was born in a home surrounded in perpetual contradiction, where words don't match action and face belies heart. His father was held up in great regard, a councilor who had amassed a great number of patients and followers, but the truth of his dubious techniques and two-faced nature being kept hidden. Merlo was quickly swept up in keeping appearances, the fear of any misstep being painfully conditioned into him. But his wish for freedom was answered with a pyrrhic solution, as he watched the swan song of his father's cruelty manifested as a remnant, this event ironically awakening him as the renaissance that ended the embodiment of his torment.   Merlo has become an unrestrained individual, both in kindness and in passion, his extensive exposure to deception inspired great candor while his repression was replaced by adventurousness. Calm and excited, softspoken yet quite loud, Merlo has managed to merge many things that a common person may find dissonant, yet he basks in whatever his heart seeks unabashedly. Very few aren't at least a tad perplexed when they see a new side of him, him not hiding any of these facets nor any of them being an act, any of an acquaintance's ignorance simply due to not yet having the opportunity to see him in another of his many capacities. His interests, his abilities, his very being can only be described as vast, even his most intimate of friends still learning more about him as time passes, as Merlo himself has not yet discerned the true depth of his being. However, bold daredevilry is just the things a person like him needs, as he's never tuned down an opportunity for self-discovery.   Without his remnant, his ability is called "Illumination", and EA, and manifests as a small halo that can produce a bright light, a very simple power. His remnant Crepus, was born from duality that once brought anguish he now aims to resolve within himself.

Crepus, The Twilight
The master of this remnant appears as quite the paradox. This remnant is emerges in a dichotomy, light and dark, day and night, dawn and dusk, cycling between these antithesis in a perpetual dance. Observers often see this remnant and its master in the same light, as clearly split into irreconcilable parts, practically distinct and separate from another with any attempt to harmonize them being a Sisyphean endeavour, all while being ever distant. However this perspective is born from a limited vantage, the truth of his remnant's entirety only visible to its master whose replaced the desire to cleanlily split things into part with the simple awe of a holistic grandeur. Though, even its master, despite this remnant's numerous eyes, can never see all the grandeur that exists, even its own, but this void of perception is well filled by knowledge that such breadth still exists without one's gaze. The master of this remnant recognizes it to be similar to the sky, people seeing it as parts such as night and day despite the only true difference between the two is perspective, and people seeing its as high and far, while in reality it rests right beside you.

Crepus can manifests in different ways, its form reflecting what aspect of its power is being employed. It usually transforms the halo from Merlo's EA into large golden ring that usually float above Merlo's head like a halo with eight spokes around it resembling light rays in artistic depictions of the sun. Its second, less common form, transforms the ring into a blood red crescent shape that floats behind Merlo's head.
The unbound ability, "Eventide", allows Merlo to manifests eye-like sigils where wings sprout from which he can move and manipulate, often manifesting multiple of these sigils on himself to grant him wings and the ability to fly. Furthermore, these wings can absorb light to generate a powerful golden energy that can be released as searing bolts or destructive beams. But, this ability has changes depending on the form Crepus takes, as in its second form these eye-sigils instead sprout serpent-like black vines dotted with red-tinted splinters, these vines able to invert its golden light energy into a forceful darkness that can be employed in much the same ways.
  Style and Abilities
Though kept mostly hidden, Merlo is is an incredibly powerful renaissance with an output that matches other top contenders with raw bombardment. Merlo rarely employs the full extent of his power, only using a necessary amount of force in combat, thus he often starts and ends many battles simply using his wings to beat down enemies while firing an occasional blast to energy if the time calls. But when circumstances demand, he is able to unleash massive barrages of power that can render the ground and opponents to scorches or crush them with wings whose size can engulf a large crowd, all this not to mention his ability to fly which grants mobility available to few. And though one would expect him to only be powerful on sunny days, Crepus' second form thrives in the dark, as though it still requires some light, the dark energy it can derive from it is significantly more powerful and more than makes up for the reduced energy source, even the vines themselves being just as dangerous as his wings while still granting flight.

Thought it might look so, Merlo's strength is not almighty and there are critical weakness one can exploit. The output of Crepus' day form is contingent on the amount of light in the environment and as such often employed out in the open day sky, this position making him vulnerable to long ranged attacks from a covert position, that is if you can pierce through the many wings that shroud him in protection. A dim enclosed area where he can't spread his wings a limit his power would force him to be more defensive position that can be more easily exploited. But one must weary as such an environment becomes advantageous to him when using Crepus' night form, though even this has weaknesses. Though the dark energy emanated from its vines are significantly stronger despite its insignificant light cost, it has a unique weakness where it dissolves in light, bright light able to completely erase it. Furthermore its quite straining for Merlo to switch forms, thus an adversary who know how to best utilize their terrain an environment may have a chance to fell such vast strength.

Physical Description

Physical quirks

An odd phenomena that has allowed him to remain rather inconspicuous is that the scale of his power is nearly undetectable, the commonly used methods for testing and the latent potency of an ability always rating him as incredibly weak, only ever detecting a minuscule portion of his power at most. And though his remnancy has been recorded, his "weakness" allows his to be overlooked for the most part.

Special abilities

Merlo often manifests Crepus' sigils directly on his back, often sprouting three pairs of wings, these wings able to propel him at great speeds to travel long-stretches of sky in little time. But, he's not limited to manifesting wings from his back, able to affix sigils to surfaces of manifest a multitude around him to grant far more than just three pairs of wings. Even their size and strength is under his control, able to form large draping wings that can move with enough force to crush a car with a single swipe. Given that these wings are the instruments that facilitate his power, a greater amount of wings allow his to absorb and emit greater amounts of light and energy, they, however, do not do the same with his mobility with any more than his usually three pairs beginning to slow his movements, trading speed for strength. Much of the same applies to Crepus' night form, however his aerial mobility is severely hindered, being limited to a sluggish hover when in this form, but its raw output of its dark energy far surpasses it light counterpart, albeit with a new weakness. Its almost comical how a force that can decimate swaths of land and raze all in its path be countered with a high-lumen flashlight. Though, Crepus has an even more obscure weakness, that being its reliance of light. Even its night form needs a shred of light to function, thus pitch darkness is its ultimate enemy, being completely devoid of light not only stripping it of its ability to generate its power, but also its physical strength.

Apparel & Accessories

He doesn't have specific combat wear given his avoidance of conflict, but he does have clothing designed for wyverians that accommodates dorsal protrusions.

Specialized Equipment

Not having any formal combat training, Merlo's techniques are very crude and direct, relying on simply emitting waves of power or simple thrusts and sweeps of his wings or vines, though the scales of these attacks can still make them effective despite their simplicity. Flight, on the other hand, is something he has great talent and experience in from his secret high-altitude escapades, his aerial mobility being awe-inspiring to see akin to a jet's air-show. Usually the combination of his dominion of the sky and simple but powerful attacks being enough contend with even the most dangerous of foes, and though his inexperience is certainly a weakness, his simple way of life doesn't merit such worries regarding strength.

Mental characteristics

Employment

Works primarily as a daycare worker under his grandmother, where he's responsible for a majority of the children's care and wellbeing. Despite the tribulations of childcare, he greatly enjoys his work and is quite skilled in it, earning him the favour of the childfren and their caretakers.

Personality Characteristics

Savvies & Ineptitudes

His free nature has led him to many interests and many talents by extension. He's acquired jack-of-all-trades kind of skillset where he's dabbled in nearly every common hobby and a fair many uncommon ones, though he still has a few favorites. His job as a children's daycare worker has honed his skill in caring for young children, giving his sense of patience plenty of practice. Though his kindness and gentleness certainly helps, as he's always been the children's favourite. Cooking, cleaning, and fabric work being some of his strong suits, with his general attunement to others, particularly to those he takes care of, being his strongest. But contrasting his usually soft demeanor, he's also acquired a great love and skill for heavy rock music, his talent with an electric guitar being deafening both literally and figuratively.

History

The two came across each other due to them both living close to one another, Merlo immediately catching Alistair's attention having sussed-out Merlo's remnancy and hidden power. Despite the two being rather different, Merlo always being out and about while Alistair treats everyday like a lazy afternoon, the two have an oddly amicable connection, both their demeanors being born from a desire for freedom, the only difference being how they use it. Though, Alistair isn't without certain reservations. Despite remaining unbothered as he knows of Merlo's tenderheartedness, he still recognizes Merlo as a dangerous individual for his power, akin to a bomb without a fuse. But in a world with entities as strange as them, the possibility for danger is as plausible as any other reality.

With Alistair's help and some serendipity, he manages to succeed in helping Merlo evade the grip of the authorities and hide the true extent of Merlo's power.
