Maril Osto

Basic Information

Maril Osto is one of the oldest settlements in Terrene. Rivalled only by Uruk-Koti, Aquila and [Tortle City]. It is now the largest city in the world, with the second closest city not even coming close in size to Maril Osto. The city is so large that the city is broken into four sections. 1.xx, The Northern City, 2. xx, The Western City, 3. xx, The Southern City and 4. xx, the Inner City. While the first three sections were built up until the reign of High King Alsorin Glacier, the inner city has stood for a long time. The districts and sections of the cities are named and renamed after other Kings, Queens, princes or princess of the Glaciers.

The city is constructed from a rare magical material known as, XXX. This becomes a white brick like substance that makes the city look very bright, as it looks like snow that never darkens.

Alsorin Towns

By the time of High King Alsorin Glacier, the city of Maril Osto had grown out of control and the surrounding plains and forests were being sullied and destroyed. Furious at how the Kings Council was treating the lands, he signed a royal decree banning any expansion outside of the city walls. He put a ban meaning that no settlement could be built within 15 miles of the city. This allowed for the natural beauty of the land to regain and now the plains of Alsorin are a place of natural beauty.

Towns would grow on the boundary of the capital, with people using these towns to live in before travelling into Maril Osto for work. They would eventually become known as Alsorin Towns.

Sewers

The sewers are built 24 feet underground, all houses are only allowed to dig 14 feet into the ground, creating a 10 foot space between the sewers and the buildings of Maril Osto, that said the only two buildings that break this rule are the Winter Palace and Elentine Tower.

Royal Palaces

The Inner City has two royal palaces, however they are not both housing royals. There was a brief period where they were both used, however now only the Korvati palace is used. The Halti palace is now used as a place to host people of high importance.

• Halti Palace.

This was the first palace the Glaciers built. It is based in Erthads Abode and was originally in the same district as the Elentine Tower. It was built by the first king of the Snow Elves, Erthad Glacier. He originally built a small single story building, that had four rooms total. Eventually the palace evolved over time, as each king took the throne, they would build it into a palace worthy of kings.

By modern times, the palace holds no royals and is instead a place for important guests to stay in.

• Korvati Palace.

This was built by High King Aeran Glacier II. It is based in the Winter Shore, the district that was there before was knocked down, to allow the Glaciers to build a district that was heavily fortified, to prevent the killing of the royals, like what had happened when Thenerious Amhulan's Island Elves sacked the city in the Second Island Elf Conquest. This district is so fortified and secure, that it is almost impossible to sneak into the Winter Shore.

The Korvati Palace is actually several palaces. There is the main building for the king, but there is also a smaller palace for the Crown Prince to live in and to prepare and practise their role as ruler that they will one day inherit.

The palace was built in 1E 1109y, after the troubles of the Maelstrom as High King Aeran II did not trust the Elentir and had wanted to build a more secure palace. He also wanted to put the bloodshed of the Maelstrom behind him and as such he decided it was time to build a new palace. It was only thanks to High Lady Norasea Carnen that the original palace was not destroyed and instead kept as a reminder of times gone. She even convinced the king to build a memorial and exhibit to the Maelstrom within the palace. One that only the chosen may see. The Korvati palace even had secret tunnels and corridors within the buildings, making it a nightmare for assassins.

It was High King Halafarin Glacier in the second era, year 106 that would stop the Glaciers from using the old palace. He also came up with the nickname for the Korvati palace, the Winter Palace.

Beggers Way:
Beggers Way is a large portion of XXX. It is akin to a shanty town and is where the poorest live in Maril Osto.
