Strix
Human neighbors tell horrific tales of slaughter woven with frightened suspicion when speaking of strix. Strix, however, tell a tale of encroachment and a struggle for land and resources. For ages, humans invaded strix lands fighting bloody battles against the fierce, black-skinned creatures they thought to be winged devils. Over time, strix have developed a hatred for humankind and now fiercely protect their dwindling numbers.
Basic Information
Anatomy
Strix resemble humans in size and build, but their sharply pointed ears, large pupilless eyes, and slitted nostrils distinguish the race even without their distinctive 12-foot wingspans. Strix stand just over 6 feet tall on average though their typical hunched posture makes them appear much shorter. An adult strix weighs around 140 pounds with males and females being roughly the same size. Most strix live to be about 40 years old, with the eldest reaching ages of up to 60.
Ecology and Habitats
Live in small, mostly isolated communities in the highest parts of Aomori Hinterlands. This includes the upper parts of most of the White Cities.

Perception and Sensory Capabilities
Besides flight, strix see well in the dark, starlight, and moonlight, and are resistant to illusions due to their deep suspicions.
Civilization and Culture
History
According to legend, the strix were delivered to their current home in a terrible storm, where they must survive as punishment until the end of the sun. Images on scrolls in the library of Iadara in Kyonin have led to speculation of a relationship with winged humanoids among the men of Azlant and the elves of Adarshavir.
