Minamoto Settlement in Terravita | World Anvil

Minamoto

The second largest city in the Oniyuri Province, Minamoto's prosperity has experienced exponential growth in recent years which many citizens attribute to Prefectorial Governor Ryusei Narukami.

Demographics

Minamoto has a similar racial diversity to the rest of the Oniyuri Province, with no notable majority among the common races.   There is greater class diversity in the city when compared to the contiguous provinces of The Empire, and to a lesser extent the rest of Oniyuri, as instead of the upper class being comprised almost exclusively of humans there has been only one such family among Minamoto's upper class.   There is but one notable point about the ethnic diversity of Minamoto, as it otherwise is consistent with the rest of Oniyuri. Despite having half the population of the Provincial Capital of Noshiro, Minamoto has the largest population of ethnic Gallenians in Yutakaya. This includes the single family of humans and may be attributed to the fact that Governor Narukami's mother was from the city-state of Gallenia and this makes Gallenians feel more likely to be accepted here than in another of Oniyuri's major cities.

Government

The governor does his job quite well but he interprets what that means somewhat differently than others, such as those who granted him the position. He sees his duty as being to the city of Minamoto and it’s surounding territories rather than to The Empire and will do whatever he thinks provides the greatest long term benefit for the greatest number of Minamoto's citizens, which includes manipulating everyone he can into the optimal position for the long term prosperity of his city.

Infrastructure

Towering over the city is a white statue which was already present when the Fellowship of the Bear discovered Yutakaya.

Guilds and Factions

Though a consortium of wealthy merchants has significant influence and power. The government officials, honest merchants, and yakuza in Minamoto are often at odds with each other, providing Governor Ryusei ample opportunity to play them off each other and keep all the real power under his indirect control as he makes and enacts his clandestine plans.

Architecture

Divided into the Upper City and Lower City. Upper City came first and is more fortified. Contains Statue Hill and most important buildings. Lower City came later as more settlers came to live on the Oniyuri Peninsula and started settling outside the walls. That proved dangerous so an outer wall was build around where they has been building. Could further divide the city into districts.

Geography

The city sits on the western bank of a great river where is meets the sea.
