Animals that can take human-like form.
Basic Information
Anatomy
Endel are a sort of artificial creation by early Sephorians. At first they only embued normal fauna with intelligence but eventually it was discovered that like the Druids, Endel have an image ability to store and use magic of others. This means though they are animals they have the ability to transform with various degree of accuracy into a humanoid form.
Biological Traits
Though there is no telling how an animal is born an Endel there seems to be a trend of Endels frequently being all White or all black in coloring. There is just not enough known about how Endel work.
Genetics and Reproduction
Endel are reproductively lame. The only species an Endel has been known to reproduce naturally with is a druid and that is a very rare occurrence and has only been documented a handful of times.
Growth Rate & Stages
Endel are by all intent and purpose like all other animals, it just happens once in awhile an animal is born with extremely high intelligence and an ability to store magic. They differ from normal fauna in lifespan which with magic can be a few hundred years or even longer, no one is sure how long this species can actually last due to how rare they are.

Social Structure
Due to Endel being born randomly with no genetic ties it is rare for them to meet each other. However amongst their kin they are usually viewed as great elders or even revered as Kings. Endel are also very well liked by the Fae
Average Intelligence
Endel are very intelligent animals they are quite often tricksters and mischievous creatures who delight in confusing others used to animals begin one way.
Perception and Sensory Capabilities
Their abilities are all based on the animal itself for example a "wolf" Endel will have all over the abilities of their wolf self in a humanoid form. If an Endel is especially adept at getting magic he can often manifest that magic as other species do.
Symbiotic and Parasitic organisms
Due to the natural sponge ability of an Endel to take in the excess magic of other species especially druids, witches often make pacts with an Endel to help control their excess magic. When a witch and an Endel form a pact they Endel is typically called a Familiar. The Endel will absorb and store all of the Witches excess magic taking some to sustain itself along the way and the Witch is able to properly control their abilities. It is a mutual beneficial partnership that neither Endel nor Witch typically wish to give up.
Civilization and Culture
Naming Traditions
Typically an Endel are known by a title more so than a name, but this all depends on how often they interact with other sapient species. They pay little mind to "names" and typically accept whatever one is thrown at them even if it is derogatory.
Culture and Cultural Heritage
Though they can take human form it is surprising that most Endel do not involve themselves with most other species aside from other forest dwellers this their vague notions are quite often heavily inferred from what they know of Fae and what Fae have told them of others. This often results in extremely awkward meetings with the more conservative species.
Historical Figures
Speaking of a myth, the wolf Endel Le'Verein, one of the Magi has claimed himself to be the origin of many human myths involving a black wolf. He has said in those days after the war the humans treated other species like they were some kind of fantastical creature and he had to get his own stake in that.
Another well known figure is the Cat Familiar Julian and his Witch Shae whom is very famous for producing the most effective potions and fantastical magical medicines the world has not ever seen before.
Common Myths and Legends
Since most druids are gone the Endel have had to learn to interact with their descendants the Humans. Whom more often than not in the old days had no idea there is a species of animal out there that can take human form. This has of course spurred many human myths and stories about wolves stealing away red haired maidens from the forest, or foxes posing as woman in order to marry a wealthy man. Prince's turned into Bears and maidens into swans. The list goes on to such a degree that one must speculate if the Endel just love mischief that much or if humans spurred by other tales came up with their own...
Interspecies Relations and Assumptions
As stated previously most Endel stick to the forests or their natural homelands and so do not regularly interact with many other sapient species. They are however fond of humans or enjoy tricking humans and by one way or another interact with them enough to be known.

Conservation Status
Extremely rare, it is estimated that fewer than 100 Endel are currently alive on Mainland Terrani.
