Imasi

Translated as “The Folk of the Horizon”, the Imasi are the largest cultural group in Nabare, both in terms of population as well as territory. Spanning from the southern ends of the Copperspine mountains all the way south and west through the Dreamfire Coast, the Imasi dot the landscape in tribes and unions of all sizes. Despite their cultural dominance, their sovereignty remains somewhat amorphous. Divided into several ‘Partitions’, many Imasi find themselves under the implicit if not explicit influence of the Anyaku.    While the influence of the Anyaku can seem domineering at times, much of the day to day life of the Imasi stems from the traditions of their tribes and unions. Sorted into confederations of villages large and small, these unions continue traditions dating back thousands of years, ranging from well-practiced gathering to seasonal agriculture.   The vast majority of the Imasi are composed of the indigenous Khaern, a cat-like folk that can be found throughout Nabare. Lean, lithe, and mercurial, the Khaern range widely in both their physical traits, as well as their cultural practices. Perhaps the most important dividing attribute, though, are those Khaern that value their communal independence versus those that seek unity through collective defense. Dozen upon dozen of disagreements and fractures among these groups abound in all sorts of ways.   A few other peoples call the dominion of the Imasi home. The reclusive Hasip usually have small enclaves catered amongst Imasi lands, though some have integrated into some more cosmopolitan cities. The revenant Gajahn are shrouded in mystery, yet can be found in herds and sacred orders carrying out obscure ancient rites.
