Communion of Iloelth (Il-ith)

The Communion of Iloelth is the official congregation and doctrinal authority on Iloelthisme within Drossus. Often considered closer to a cult than a religion by outsiders, the following is almost exclusive to the Drosni, and the only belief system embraced opening among the people of Drossus.

Niar'thae

The Niar'thae, or "Sacred Waters" are the collections of reservoirs and cisterns that abut the Celestial wellspring in Naath Lenora, and are considered to be the largest such reservoir in the Underdark. Once guarded by the Carrion King, the Niar'thae are revered as both a scared space, as well as a holy sacrament to be held in trust by the followers of Iloelth.
The Niar'thae is considered by many to be an essential component of the Drosni's ability to survive in the depths of Terra Duhr. According to the Communion, the Niar'thae blesses those that take offering with the gifts of health, vitality, and fortitude against disease, hunger, and madness. Given the hostile nature of the Underdark, such benefits are highly valued.

Hierarchy of the Communion

Despite its reputation as a more subversive institution, the Communion does maintain a moderate hierarchy of its members. There are two primary groups - Yath and Yorn.

Yath

Yath serve as the invested leadership and seat of power within the Communion, both spiritual and magical. All Yath within the Communion share the unique privilege of being blessed or chosen, and possessing significant magical power of a divine nature. Of them, Yath are further subdivided into Yathrin, and Yor'thae.
Yathrin are the primary membership of the Communion, and serve as the leaders. While the Yathrin are relatively few in number, they are considered the most experienced and powerful wielders of the Communion. Entrusted with their most sacred duties and resources, Yathrin ARE the Communion, and it is through the Yathallar that the Yathrin organize the Communion's activities.
In contrast, Yor'thae make up the other portion of these Communion chosen. While gifted with supreme power, Yor'thae retain a level of independence from the Communion's dominance. Yor'thae are loosely contracted with the Communion through a Yathrin patron, and are given assignments through which they are paid in sacred water, money, or some other favor. They are expected to uphold the Communion's general tenants, and confer with them, but otherwise are left to pursue an open-ended set of tasks that serve the Communion's needs.

Yorn

The bulk of the Communion's membership consist of Yorn, who are dedicated members who posses a wide-range of mundane or artisanal talents, but otherwise do not hold influence over the Communion's affairs.

Titles and Ranks

Priestesses of the Communion are ordained by the Ulathallar, and instructed in the rituals and doctrines of Iloelthisme. They are intrusted with overseeing Iloelthen Temples, and handling key social rituals throughout Drossus. Of particular importance is the transportation and distribution of the Niar'thae.
