Avalon-Liberty Range

Avalon-Liberty Range, also known as the Western Mountains, is a no man's land between the Kingdom of Avalon and the Republic of Liberty. Neither side claimed the mountain range because both countries are afraid that such a move would be interpreted as hostile by the other side. As a result, the Avalon-Liberty Range has become a lawless region where people from both countries come to try to build a fortune. Most of them works in mining and transportation, but there are also quite a lot of people who engage in more violent jobs. Many of them call themselves "peacekeepers", but in reality, they are more like bandits. They often started as law enforcement for small communities but started to use more and more violent methods. Sometimes it was to show off their authority, while in other cases it was to get richer.

These are my lands and you will pay the tribute! Don't force my hand!
— Marcus the Cruel, the self-proclaimed Duke of the Avalon-Liberty Range

Climate

The climate in the mountains differs depending on elevation. In the valleys, it is comparable to the areas outside the mountains. It is just a little bit colder and there is more clouds in the sky as mountains block them.

When going higher, the climate becomes more and more harsh. On the peaks of the highest mountains snow and ice are present all year round. As a result, most people avoid going higher than the tundra zone of the mountains.

Fauna & Flora

Flora

Most of the flora can be found in the valleys and in the lower parts of the mountains. What most people will notice first when arriving in the Avalon-Liberty Range are the trees. The vast majority of them are conifers and cover the majority of land not claimed by humans. Additionally, there is plenty of shrubs, flowers and herbs.

In the tundra section of the mountains the flora is limited to grass and some scrub mountain pine.

Fauna

The fauna of the Avalon-Liberty Range is also quite diverse. Several species of herbivores, carnivores and omnivores can be found here. The biggest animals are moose, bears and wolves. Aside from them there are plenty of other animals. In the valleys, fauna is very similar to the areas outside the mountain range. On higher elevations live mostly the animals well adapted to the climate. The tundra zone is home mostly to small animals like rodents.

Natural Resources

The Avalon-Liberty Range is abundant in natural resources. Iron, coal, copper and lead can be found throughout the mountains. Mining of these resources has stimulated the growth of many communities and towns through trade.

Valleys are also rich in resources. There are wood, herbs, grain and animal products. Unlike the mining resources, most of these are used locally by people and not sold to outsiders.
