Empire of the Trinity

The Empire of the Trinity, or just the Empire to its constituents, is a nation that lays claim to the lands north of the Southwall Range. It prides itself on what it believes to be the most fair and simple of governing systems; a triplet of ruling figures who each have equal authority to create, abolish, and enforce laws of the land. There are those who believe in a more "unified" ruling body, and also those who believe that the ruling body should be composed of more than three individuals, but such groups are always in the minority.

Structure

At the top of the hierarchy is the Imperial Trinity; three people who rule over the whole Empire with equal authority. They can create, modify, and abolish laws, and can enforce those laws upon all citizens of the Empire. They often have a small army of advisers who have no authority themselves, but who give the Imperial Trinity advice on how to manage situations that relate to the adviser's area of expertise.
Beneath the Imperial Trinity is the Mayoral Trinity. A Mayoral Trinity governs each colony or settlement and can create, modify, or abolish laws, but they can only enforce these laws upon citizens of the colony or settlement they govern.
In smaller towns, the Mayoral Trinity is the lowest level of government, however larger settlements often have Divisional Trinities; a Divisional Trinity creates, modifies, and abolishes laws that relate to a particular division of the government, such as the military or the agricultural division, but all such decisions require approval from the Mayoral Trinity. Divisional Triplets reserve the authority to enforce laws that relate to their division, without the need for approval from the Mayoral Trinity.

Public Agenda

The public agenda of the Empire of the Trinity is to colonise the world and spread their people and their prosperity around the globe.

History

The Empire was founded from three warring tribes of humans; the Nearwallians to the south, the Sefarians to the east, and the Farwallians to the north. They nations searched for peace and unity but could not find it under a single ruler so they elected one leader from each nation to rule in unison, or so the story goes. Since then, the people of the Empire have gradually developed a more refined system of selecting their rulers, and are generally quite content with the Trinity system.
The idea of a triplet of rulers being the key to peace and prosperity pervades Imperial culture. Triangles are the favourite shape of architects and artists alike. Pyramidal roofs and towers are extremely common, not to mention triangular structural supports that are supposedly stronger than any other shape. Triads of equal and opposite concepts are often formed by philosophers; Derganism is the idea that all things can be represented physically by the earth, the sun, or the ocean.
To this day, Imperial citizens hold the number "3" in high cultural, superstitious, and philosophical regard.

Currency

The official currency of the Empire is the pex ("pex" is a zero plural, meaning that plural form is also "pex"), which is a linguistic drift from "apex". An apex is actually an older currency that is no longer printed, but 1 apex is still worth three times as much as 1 pex. Apexes are shaped like small triangular pyramids, but as more and more of them began to circulate, the decision was made to flatten them down to a triangular coin that is one third of the mass of an apex, and that coin is called a pex. Both apexes and pex are composed entirely of copper.
After the pex, there is the decan. 1 decan is worth 10 pex, and is a coin of the same size and shape. The main difference is that a decan is composed entirely of silver, which is much rarer than copper in the Imperial Mesa.
The current most valuable "coin" of the Empire is the centipex, which is worth 100 pex. It is a triangular prism made entirely of silver, and has the same mass as 10 decan coins, but is not quite as long as a tower of 10 decans would be tall. The minting process makes the prism slightly more dense than a decan, so that it is smaller and easier to handle.
Though only one source of gold was ever found in the Imperial Mesa, and it was entirely spent on building the golden tip of the Imperial Fastigium, some geologists believe that there may be veins of gold on some of the islands of Terra Mysterium.
