Heleos, God of Chickens Character in Terra (ROTH) | World Anvil

Heleos, God of Chickens

God of the Sunrise. God of Dawn, Moran Shepard

Divine Domains

Chickens, the sun, dawn, morning, sowing, calendars, clocks, spring, summer beginnings, songs, birth, midwives, doctors, children and time.   Her associated colors are red, yellow, orange, purple, pink, and white.

Divine Goals & Aspirations

She often takes up the role of a “sower.” That is to say she likes to bring new life into the world or help existing life flourish. She enjoys farming and teaching most notably. She also has a love for song and starts singing every morning at the crack of dawn. She was apparently one of the gods present during the events of the “Lyre of Appylon”. She is also very critical of Appylon’s music despite being on respectful terms and acknowledging that the music “isn’t bad, just not perfect.”     She is a famously prodigious doctor and a world renowned healer.     She likes children a lot and goes out of her way to protect them. She despises irresponsible adults and parents.     She is quite famous for the fact that she actually has two personalities. There is the “hen”, giver of life, and the “rooster”, taker of life. The personality of Heleos revolves around new beginnings and birth while Astraelios revolves around endings and death. Due to how gods can change their form, the chicken god’s body actually changes depending on which personality has taken control. Starting from sunrise, lasting through the day, Heleos is the active personality and from sunset, lasting through the night, Astraelios is the active personality. The dormant personality is capable of speaking to the active personality in the form of thoughts in their head. This sometimes gives the appearance that Heleos and Astraelios are reacting or talking to themselves.     It is rumored that when people within the Chickens’ Cult are born they hear the sound of a rooster heralding the dawn of their life. Likewise, when they die they hear the call of Astraelios marking the end of their life and directing them towards the afterlife. It is thought by some mortals that Heleos aids Mora in the reincarnation of souls via spreading them since Astraelios is known to help gather ghosts for Shia. If there are people that help guid spirits to the afterlife than surely there must be people who guide spirits from the afterlife to the land of the living right?     She is a notable member of the Cult of Life and members of Chickens’ Cult have nicknamed her the Moran Shepard. A kind of steward who aids Mora in spreading and sustaining life.     Her name comes from a combination of Helios (a Greek god of the sun) and Eos (a goddess of the dawn and mother of Memnon). Heleos is considered a god of the sun and is worshiped as a god who helps move the sun across the sky. Every morning it is said that they sing a song to wake up the sun gods across Terra and get them to move the sun across the sky. There is some rivalry between Appylon’s cult and the Chickens’ Cult due to the overlapping domains in regards to the sun and the myth of the Lyre of Appylon, but some see Heleos’ job as waking up Appylon. Others believe that Heleos wakes up Appylon at the crack of dawn every morning in order to get revenge on the deer god.     During an eclipse the chicken god loses control of her body as both personalities become active at the same time and unintentionally fight for control.

Physical Description

General Physical Condition

In her mortal form she resembles that of a fat young woman with dark brown skin and red hair that is usually done up in a manner of red dreads resembling a chicken’s comb. She typically takes on the form of a harpy or angel. Her legs resemble that of a chicken and she usually wears a yellow face mask over her beak. This is apparently because one time she accidentally poked out someone’s eye despite how dull the beak seems. She has feathers on her chest and her fingers end in what resemble dull chicken claws. The back of her arms have feathers.     Her ears take the form of small feathery wings. Her head is actually detached from her neck and it can be flown or carried around. But she usually keeps it tied to her neck via bandages.

Facial Features

Her left eye has a purple iris and a pupil that looks like it is filled the the light of the rising sun. The light gets brighter as the sun rises and weaker as the sun sets. Her right eye resembles the yolk and whites of an egg, with the pupil and iris being yellow.     Her eyes are noticeably big and she occasionally moves her head in a manner that resembles a chicken.

Special abilities

She has another personality, Astraelios (the chicken god of dusk), that takes over when it becomes sunset. When this happens her body physically changes. This makes paying attention to time zones important for the god since suddenly moving time zones can lead to the other personality taking over. The personalities don’t have any bad blood and have a deal to give the other at least some time in the driver’s seat. This means that they don’t try to stall their transformation by jumping from time zone to time zone unless there is something only that aspect of the chicken god can deal with. When a personality is not in control of the god’s body they can communicate with the active personality by speaking within their head. This can lead to debates but they also help each other very often.     She is a master of Life, Fire, and Wind magic. She is very adept at healing others and can increase the rate at which crops grow, making her a popular god amongst farmers. She constantly radiates a gentle warmth.     She is quite capable in the use of time magic, and can even use it to stall off death for a considerable amount of time.     She is capable of flight. Her head can fly independently from her body.     She is a specialist in terms of defense, and while her offense isn’t the best, she is really good at stalling out fights despite not being the best fighter.     She can fire a beam from her left eye, but it is not very powerful. It can also act sort of like a flashlight.

Apparel & Accessories

She usually wears a sundress and jewelry.

Specialized Equipment

She can often be seen with a fork hoe that has a very small scythe-like blade on the back. This blade also resembles the spur of a chicken while the other part of the head resembles a claw. While she isn’t the best of fighters she can wield the tool quite efficiently in combat. However, its true purpose is in tilling and it can act as a conduit for her life magic. Lands tilled with this tool will be filled with life magic and nutrients. This causes plants and animals to grow in these areas much faster. However, sometimes this growth can cause populations to explode out of control and if this tool is used improperly the soil will be almost completely devoid of nutrients over time until it is barren. So Heleos is very selective about when she uses this tool and she has to make sure that those tending the land use proper farming and cultivation techniques. She uses it in her own small personal garden all the time though.     She carries a pocket watch that can act as a conduit for time magic. It also functions as an alarm clock, signaling the time when she takes control of her body or when Astraelios takes over. The clock automatically adjusts itself to take into account time zones.     She has a plane that can shine like the sun as it flies through the air. It is an old model and prone to overheating though. In the past some believed that this plane held the sun and moved it across the sky.     She has a winged horse that is said to have been given to her by Mora. The animal is overflowing with life magic and can heal wounds in a heartbeat.

It is rumored that the chicken god had her head chopped off after angering Shia. I really love the dual personalities of this God and really appreciate that you explained that this God is out of Commission during an eclipse because of false personalities being activated.
