Shattered Solace

Haunting beauty, monstrous turmoil, desperate survival

Shattered Solace is a hauntingly beautiful and perilous region consisting of a fragmented peninsula and countless jagged islands. It is rife with Void Storms and treacherous magical currents, making navigation a challenge even for the most skilled sailors. Despite its dangers and the many monsters that emerge from its murky depths, scarred pockets of civilisations yet remain. Treasure hunters and scavengers come in search of magicite; rebels and political dissidents seeking refuge from the Empire's gaze; Shattered Reavers roaming a broken land in memory of a past they have forgotten... Their futures remains uncertain, but the indomitable spirit that defines the inhabitants of this broken land will not be easily quelled.

History

Before the Emperor rose to power, he was a distinguished general who earned his reputation through numerous military successes. In that time, Solace was a prosperous city and region, on the border of the Therian Republic. His career reached a pivotal point when Solace rebelled, backed by demonic legions. Though his forces managed a heroic defense and extermination campaign that prevented the demon forces from spreading further, he grew bitter. He blamed the entire war on the influence of Axiom upon his government, believing this was what had drawn the demons to seduce Solace into open warfare, and became increasingly convinced that not just Axiom's influence, but the influence of all metaplanes, only brought disaster upon the Material Plane. He believed it was time for the hegemony of the mortal races to begin, without influences from outside their plane.   In a shocking turn of events, the famous general who quelled the Solace Rebellion became a rebel himself, using Solace as his base. It was there that he invented magicite, effectively stumping the Therian response to his rebellion. He seized the capital of Theria and proclaimed himself Emperor, ushering in a new era of mortal dominance.   Hundreds of years later, one of the High Generals in command of a Skybound Citadel rebelled in turn. He marshalled Moonreef Citadel and its forces against the capital of Theria, but was ultimately repelled. His Skybound Citadel fled, limping and broken, but fell from the sky over Solace, detonating upon impact. This cataclysmic event shattered the land and unleashed a torrent of magical energy, creating the treacherous realm of Shattered Solace.

Features

Shattered Solace's geography is a testament to its tumultuous past. The fragmented peninsula and myriad islands are a maze of treacherous waterways and jagged coastlines, making navigation a perilous endeavor. Void Storms are incredibly common, further adding to the dangers. Weather patterns are wholly unique and chaotic, sometimes defying the laws of nature altogether.   The region boasts diverse biomes, each influenced by a different metaplane and the corruption brought in the wake of the Void Storms and the Planar Corruption that they bring. Each region within the peninsula is another unique ecosystem, fostering an ever-shifting array of monsterous flora and fauna. The one thing they all have in common is that they tend to be deadly in the extreme...

Inhabitants

Shattered Solace's inhabitants are as varied as the land itself, consisting of individuals and groups who have learned to harness the region's challenges to their advantage. Among these inhabitants are the Shattered Reavers, a subgroup of the Viridian race who have honed their sailing and survival skills to navigate the treacherous waters and thrive in the unforgiving landscape.   The region also serves as a refuge for rebels, dissidents, and political refugees fleeing the Empire's control. These individuals form hidden communities within the shattered landscape, using the natural barriers and treacherous waters to elude the Empire's grasp. Most of these communities are short-lived, as the freedom Shattered Solace offers often comes at a terrible price...   A variety of monstrous humanoids make their home here as well, including:
  • Harpies: Winged, savage females who use their enchanting voices to lure sailors to their doom, sinking ships and feasting on the unfortunate victims.
