Knight

A Knight is not a landed noble by right, but a sworn title of honor, service, and arms, granted to those who have proven themselves in battle, duty, or loyalty. Knights form the hardened backbone of military forces across the Mornlands, serving lords both high and low as elite warriors, trusted retainers, and enforcers of noble will.

To be knighted is to be elevated above common birth, though most knights remain vassals—holding no lands of their own unless granted a manor or stipend in fief. They owe fealty to a lord, most often a baron or viscount/count, and in turn may command lesser men-at-arms, squires, and household guards.

Knights are bound by oaths of loyalty, martial duty, and honorable conduct, though the reality of knighthood often varies by region. Some are shining paragons clad in armor and purity; others are hard-riding brutes who earned their spurs through blood and luck. In war, they lead charges, hold the line, and carry their lord’s banner into the fray.

Knighthood may be granted on the battlefield, in court, or through ritual at temple or hall. Some lords knight freely to build loyalty. Others reserve the title as rare reward. A knight is addressed as “Ser”, regardless of gender, and the title is personal—it does not pass to heirs without the title being approved by a baron or greater.
