General Summary
Session 0
Having known each other peripherally for a little while, a group of adventurers meet up for a common job in the capital city of Craysilt. Hired by Greer Barron to discover who killed Karlow Fassbender, and why.
Talking with Greer, they discover that Karlow was strangled from behind before he was thrown into the river a good distance from the murder scene, and that Karlow's prized lute, a famed Gnelson brand instrument of the bards, has gone missing.
Bringing the investigation outward, the party investigates the last place Karlow played, at Gallagher's, a tavern in the Southbay district of the city. There, they uncover Petunia's affair with Karlow, and further cement their idea that Karlow may actually have been a pretty decent human being. Everyone seems to have loved him, except for jealous husbands, and he donated up to half his wealth to the urchins and waifs of the Wharf Rats.
After disbursing with some thugs sent to warn them off of the Karlow investigation, the party learned that Canker, boss of the Slumlords, ordered the thugs to attack the party.
An urchin calling herself Carla witnessed the murder, according to Greer, and also saw the murderers dump the body in the river after transporting it in a stolen cart from Beorn's Winery. The party has yet to speak to any of the urchins who call themselves Wharf Rats, and also decided the scene of the murder would be an important place to investigate.
Fantastic first session, it was great to meet everybody, and the party seems to gel nicely! I love the way everyone seems to have immersed themselves into the story immediately.Character(s) interacted with

Karlow's Lute
Instrument
Legendary Requires Attunement
This instrument is an exquisite example of luthiery. It has a dark rosewood body, and a spruce sound board; the neck is inlaid with purple worm chitin as fret markers. The tuning pegs are also made from the deep periwinkle-tinged shell of those voracious predators.
The rosette is a pattern evocative of Yggdrasil, the tree of life, with a scroll-sawn sound hole screen that mirrors the rosette's complex pattern.

Attempting to play this instrument while unattuned to it will cause 2d4 Psychic Damage, or half as much on a DC15 Wisdom saving throw.
An action can be used while playing this instrument to cast one of its spells. Once the spell has been cast, it cannot be cast again until the next dawn. The spells use the caster's spell casting ability, DC, and modifiers.
Playing the instrument while casting a spell that would Charm an opponent, imposes disadvantage on that opponent's Saving Throw.
