Ignatius Walowik

Ignatius Horace Walowik (a.k.a. Iggie; A.K.A. The Dread Sheriff of Serkin)

As the son of a member of the Yu’urn in the demon realms, Ignatius Walowik had very comfortable, very sheltered upbringing. Given following his human mother into the mortal world meant suddenly becoming royalty there as well, this was unlikely to change. Although fairly young by demon standards upon Diana’s crowning - a little over 30 years old, though barely even half-grown - he immediately accepted his place as dual-royalty, unable to flaunt it though he was. Records from castle staff describe him as unbearably loud, presumptuous, and spoiled, so long as he was out of earshot of his mother and sister. When accompanied by his family, however, he would transform - some claimed by magic - into a perfect gentleman. This led most to assume that it was not lax parenting and a sheltered childhood that made the young Ignatius a pompous ass; He simply enjoyed being a prick.

This all changed when the demon lad was targeted for political assassination. Upon returning to his quarters one night, Ignatius was shocked to discover a man waiting for him, standing over runic carvings and filling them with power. In a moment of panic, the would-be assassin activated his spell, opening a vortex that began ripping the room, along with the very tower around it, apart. When the whirling cloud of arcane energy finally collapsed into itself, all that was left of that small wing of the castle was the smoking foundation and the rubble of its collapsed roof. Both the assassin and the crown prince were nowhere to be found, and all magical attempts to discern Ignatius’ location turned up nothing.

In a burst of rage and grief so great that it still holds many of her political enemies at bay to this day, Queen Diana sought out any who could be connected with the murder of her son. While the intervention of her daughter, Eithne, and her close friend, Leonine, prevented her from doing anything so drastic that it might threaten her reign, those found guilty of plotting against Ignatius were shown no mercy; they were made a brutal example against any who might harm Diana’s family.

Unbeknownst to the people of Duwallen, Ignatius was not dead. While none are quite sure what the faulty runework was meant to do to the unfortunate demon lad - some believe the goal was to deposit him in the planet’s core, but bad math shot him too far - what occurred was that he, along with the ruins of his tower, was deposited into the airspace above the land of Sur’Dhanza. Surviving both the trip through the vortex and the incredible fall on the far side thanks to his innate chimeran regeneration, Ignatius woke to find himself in an alien land, surrounded by scavengers in the act of picking through what remained of his old life.

To make a long story short, Ignatius was eventually taken in by the sheriff of a small desert town somewhere between the kiarren capital of Sharast and the Sur’Dhanzan demon outpost of Kitalnu’urn. Here, he was raised in a way utterly foreign to him; taught to fend for himself in a world that cared not one iota for his royal standing. Although his foster father did his utmost to instill a sense of morality into the selfish prince, to only moderate success, he had a great deal more luck teaching him how to fight.

As he mastered the basics and moved onto more complicated martial arts, Iggie met with blacksmiths in the area to learn their arts as well, seeking to take part in the Duwallish tradition of making one’s own weapons. He crafted a pair of wicked hook-blades which he could swing like axes or wield like blades depending on the moment’s preference, quickly taking a liking to just how messily effective they were. Years later, he would take to smithing again, hiring on a runemason from beyond Malephesh’s Tear to aid him in the creation of a small golem. This little creation, whom he dubbed Clink, would become a son to Iggie, eventually taking over as the only family left to the demon's name after his mentor passed away.

In modern times, Iggie has become the proprietor of a saloon/bounty office within his adopted home of Serkin, where he serves as the region’s unofficial sheriff. His name and rank are feared throughout the sands not just because of the hypocritical ways by which he upholds his laws, but also because of what happens to those who break them. Riddled with equal parts bullet holes and blade wounds, those who survive tell tales of a hell-beast who shows mercy only with the most intense of disappointment; who revels in bloodshed and chaos, cackling wildly amidst the screams of his victims. Needless to say, he inspires very few repeat offenders.
