Creation of the Material Plane: Hangatyr's Sacrifice

According to Nordergott creed, the Material Plane is an artificial realm crafted from the physical corpse of their chief god, Hangatyr  Before the Material Plane's creation, mortal kith was scattered throughout the Aetheric Pathways, and placed in dangerous environments as a result. They had no true place to call a home. Forever hunted by The Dread Wolf, Otti, mortal kith sought something resembling safe refuge somewhere in the world. Hangatyr felt sympathetic to the cause of the mortals, and formulated a plan to give them a safe place to life in Tascallon.   With help from his fourth son Hemligar, Hangatyr severed his spiritual essence from his physical form while keeping the astral energy stored in his body intact, which would allow him to shape the remains into a plane.    Being an older deity with a long-time connection to the Pathways, Hangatyr is said to have built up a great deal of astral energy. In addition to his natural stockpile, the vine Hangatyr hangs from is derived from the same astral pathways, and as a result the plane will be replenished with astral energy while it remains attached by the vine. Through this, Hangatyr's corpse can supply most of the mortal races with magic if it is not granted by a divine or patron-level source. Dwarves are the sole exception to this rule, as they were shaped from the bones of Hangatyr, which are not in contact with the World Tree in the slightest.
