Common

"Science is just magic that we understand"   -Jeremy Electric Reuger
Common is the most widespread language in Tarroc, with over 700 million speaking it as their first language. Descended from Oldcommon, it is a part of the Indo-Centurion language family, and is closely related to both Gnomish and Giant

Writing System

Common most typically utilizes the Centurion Alphabet, a system of 26 letters created not long after creation somewhere in Amayarr. Of the 26 letters, 21 are consonants and 5 are vowels.

Geographical Distribution

Common is spoken in every nation and every continent

Phonology

Common contains 44 different phonemes - 24 consonant phonemes and 20 vowel phonemes. It has more vowel phonemes than average, and an average amount of consonant phonemes. Its most common consonant phonemes are stops and fricatives, such as /p, b, t, d, s, z/, though it also has affricates, glides, and trills. 11 of its vowel phonemes are monophthongs and the remaining 9 are diphthongs.

Morphology

Common is an analytic language with an average morpheme count of less than 2 per word. Prefixing and suffixing are highly common in English, while infixation and circumfixation are exceedingly rare. Generally because of its limited morphology, its syntax is highly complex.

Syntax

Common follows a very typical subject-verb-object (SVO) word order. In question formation, inversion is often used, as is intonation. It tends to follow the patterns of other OV languages, though as with all languages, there are of course occasional deviations.
