How Tonu was able to secure the title of Donu has become a legendary tale among the Zennonaize. A man without land or title, Tonu served as a captain in the Alku Clan cavalry. While reputedly a fine soldier and horseman, he was without distinction. When the leaders of the other great clans met, agreeing that the Confederacy could not afford a civil war, they debated about who to elect for two moons. Finally, late one evening, after the last of the ale in all of Zennon had been drunk, one of the clan leaders lamented that war would have been simpler and that they should just name a common solider Dono. Tonu, standing guard at the time volunteered his services with a laugh and asked who in the hall would vote for him. After a round of drunken and exhausted ayes, the title was his.
