Lost Clan

For a Khadra, family is everything. And as Khadra, they have many different types of families. Their society is divided first into close families, parents, siblings, and grand-parents. Beyond that, however, is the broader, extended family of cousins and in-laws, many of whom have relationships dating back hundreds, if not thousands of years. These extended families, known as clans, help both provide a home and profession to a Khadra, but also serve as description of their place in society. Sometimes, however, a clan will be ravaged by disease, mining, accident battle, or other misfortune, leaving it too small to partake in Khadric society. These Khadra are said to have lost their clan.

Unwilling to allow anyone to slip through the cracks, those without an extended clan are allowed to band together with others in the same misfortune. This group has become known as the Lost Clan. Perhaps looser in its relationships than other clans, members of the Lost Clan always have a fire by which to warm their feet. Without a strong, unified tradition, few become craftsmen. Instead, many take on simpler professions, such as mining or farming. More than a handful have elected instead a life of wandering, unable to bear the site of New Kharolin for long. These become merchants and warriors and are perhaps the most common Kharda to encounter outside of the Underground Kingdom. They are always, however, welcomed bac by their brethren when they return.

Some, especially those of wealth and privilege, may turn their beards up at members of the Lost Clan. As are result, though it is possible to join another clan, by the grace of their elders, this rarely happens. Despite the subtle prejudice, however, many still gain fame and glory. The current Clan Chief, for example comes from the Lost Clan.
