The Draconic Wars

Disaster / Destruction

Resetting the World

This is the conflict that forged the world today, this is a seminal event, yet it isn't used for any calendar because no one truly knows the extent of how long ago, or when it happened.

When Tariek was yet young, the intelligent races as we know them living, arguing surely, but growing together, even beyond the normal racial tensions we know today. Goblins mined beside dwarves, orcs lived alongside elves. They worked together, grew, under the watchful eye of Dragon kind.   The world was forged in this arrangement, under this guidance by the dragons, by Mother and her children's first creations, the physical creatures that embodied the elements themselves. But such was not meant to last. Untold millennia ago, the dragons started to split, started to disagree, to fight. Greed and envy and wrath crept into some of them, angry and jealous that they were not to be overlords. Why should they not be, after all? They tower and overpower anything the puny humans, elves, dwarves, goblins, or any of them could do. These dragons, the ones that would become the dragons of terrifying legend and lore, the chromatic of dragon kind, decided that it was their right. And they waged war, unleashed terrible violence to seek to claim that right.   And so a terrible, violent conflict began that would divide the world into bitter castes, even so deep and bitter that many have forgotten their origin. Goblins and dwarves, their hatred comes from this conflict, this centuries long war that ravaged the world. Elves and orcs, the same, even more so elves and drow. The intelligent races picked sides, knowing they could not stand alone against such powerful beings. Those divisions became the lore of our world. Do not doubt that goblins and hobgoblins are evil in nature, but their nature comes from their ancestors choices, and the centuries long conflict that followed. They are not so much evil which leads to their terrible nature. They are a product of a terrible decision long ago, that has twisted and made them evil by nature. A subtle distinction, but one that needs to be noted, and remembered as best we can.   This conflict rocked the world, broke the world, shattered the world into three continents the three that exist today. This conflict gives us the faiths we have, mortal heroes, on both sides of the war, stand as legends, myths, religions now, their scraps of text, translated as best one can from high Draconic, a forgotten language, down to the bare bones leftovers of the language we have now, Draconic, and then again to common. But none of these translations guarantee any sort of knowledge. The remains of broken landscape dot the odd place all over the continent. Some hold the....feeling, the sense...that they were sights of the conflict. Indeed a bit of the stories told in the various religious texts have been figured, studied and a few sights of battles have been...estimated. No one is fool enough to guarantee they are correct, but they offer the best guess based on the little snippets of knowledge we have.
