Arcanix

The fishing village of Arcanix has much more than meets the eye, and all you have to do is look up. The first settlers of the region found it perfect for the plentiful fishing areas in Scion's Inlet, but this was just the catalyst for much more. The discovery of a snarl floating high in the sky prompted the building of the floating wizard towers that Arcanix is better known for. Queen Aurala ir'Wynarn founded the Arcane Congress here which evolved to create Arcanix University. Under the flag of Aundair, Arcanix University is one of the greatest magical schools and research centers in all of Noyatu, competing directly with Strixhaven University to the southwest.

Port of Democracy

Like other settlements in Aundair, Queen Aurala ir'Wynarn appoints a Zharena to lead and from there they are able to structure their local government how they see fit. Zharena Stacy decided to continue the tradition of Arcanix where he leads absolutely and a council of elected citizens advises his decisions. The council is made up of 5 members; the Econospeaker, the University Ambassador, the City Planner, Lawmaster, and one of the head priests of either the Melora or Keranos temple. The Econospeaker, the University Ambassador, the City Planner, and the Lawmaster are elected positions. Every 5 years citizens of Arcanix vote for a set of esteemed citizens who have shown an interest in supporting the community. The head priest is the only non-elected official, instead, the temples alternate every 5 years during the election cycle of the other positions. These 5 council members advise the Zharena on city policy and issues concerning the community.

Lawmaster and Lawkeepers

Lawmaster Franking Garrison was elected to keep the streets of Arcanix clean. He served in both the Wynarn CIty Watch and the Aundairian military during the revolution and is considered a man of great honor among the people of Arcanix. He leads the Lawkeepers in policing the city. Their leather uniforms sport a purple base and the Aundairian crest on the back of the breastplate. In higher ranks, additional gold trimmings are added.

Tidal Trade

Arcanix was settled on the southwestern coast of Scion’s Inlet which allows the town to benefit from warm and rainy winters and hot and dry summers. In the autumn, it gets frequent, heavy and short rainfalls. This climate allows Arcanix farmers to grow a variety of autumnal fruits and vegetables. Large wheat fields cover most of the land west outside of town with apple, pear, and peach orchards surrounding the main settlement. This gives anyone traveling into Arcanix by foot a cozy welcome. Sugar beet and potato farms dot the landscape south of the town.
However, fishing and pearl harvesting are the main components that draw traders to Arcanix. Fishers go up and down Scion’s Inlet looking for the best haul and divers go exploring for lost artifacts or sea-floor creatures. Jewelers on Scion’s Walk make beautiful pearl accessories and Arcatian glass blowers are some of the best in all of Aundair.

Religion in Arcanix

Given the high arcane presence in the village, there isn't a lot of religious involvement. The little that exists comes from the sailors and fisherman who pray to Melora and Keranos, each of whom has a temple in the village. The Melora temple is a beautiful public park with a crystal clear pond in the center. Towards the front of the park is a small central building for bureaucratic dealings and the living quarters of the head priest Virion Craob (Female Gnome). On the other hand, Keranos's temple in Scion's Edge is a large stone brick building with stained glass presenting Keranos in full might. There is a large central chamber for worship with small side rooms where patrons can come to work on projects of any kind. The temple is extremely musty given its proximity to the water and its common patronage. Its head priest, Trenton Mariache (Male Human), was a fisherman who, in his later years, came to pray and participate in the faith.

Magic and Unions

The Arcane Congress

The Arcane Congress is a collection of Aundair’s greatest mages, wandslingers, and mystics. The Congress is made up of 100 members who serve for life. Membership is granted by the Queen and is known only by her and the other members. Their goal is to maintain Aundairian magical supremacy across the world. They work toward destabilizing the trust of magic-users in other countries and developing unique spells and artifacts. Select members are also secretly placed in key intelligence gathering positions in foreign lands.

Fishermen of Scion

The Fishermen of Scion are a tightly-knit guild that dominates the bustling port town of Arcanix, located along the sandy shores of Scion’s Inlet. Renowned for their unparalleled skills in deep-sea fishing and aquatic navigation, they provide much of the region’s seafood, from common catches like herring to rare and exotic creatures prized for their magical properties. Their primary function is not only to sustain Arcanix with fresh provisions but also to export their surplus to neighboring cities, securing vital trade routes and enriching the town’s economy.
The guild's ultimate goal, however, extends beyond commerce: they seek to uncover the mysteries of Scion’s Inlet, particularly a long-lost artifact known as the "Scion's Beacon," said to grant its wielder mastery over the tides. This obsession drives their exploration of uncharted waters, sometimes putting them at odds with rival factions or dangerous sea creatures. The group is led by Harwin "Stormcall" Marrek, a seasoned and enigmatic captain whose weathered face bears the marks of countless storms. Harwin is revered for his courage and rumored ability to sense shifts in the sea's mood, which has earned him both admiration and suspicion among his peers. Under his leadership, the Fishermen of Scion have become not just a guild but a cornerstone of Arcanix’s culture and a force to be reckoned with on the high seas.

Artificer Workers Union

The AWU is a collective of artificers that work toward improving the lives of Arcatians and the fishermen who come to the port town. The members share ideas and aid one another in incorporating engineering feats with the magical talents found in Aundair. Many members are graduates of Arcanix University and apply their knowledge here. AWU’s work can already be found around Arcanix, from the Prancing Dolphin to innovations in Snarl Station. Onfroi d’Cannith leads the AWU and helps grow its reach with House Cannith resources.

Arcatian Districts

Arcanix has four distinct districts; Scion's Edge, The Tenements, Civic Square, and Arcanix University. The village itself is centered by Civic Square where many municipal buildings are located, including a courthouse, the Zharena center, and a jailhouse. Scion's Walk, the main marketplace, is also located off of Civic Square. A temple to Melora also sits in Civic Square as a place of worship for good weather and plentiful catches in Scion's Inlet. The smell of fresh fish permeates Scion's Edge, the dock ward of Arcanix. Located on the eastern edge of the village, buildings here are under poor repair and most shops are relegated to stalls or wagons. However, a temple to Keranos is located in this district. The Tenements is the main residential district of Arcanix, located to the west of the village. Most of the population lives here in various sized homes because of the significant halfling and gnome populations. The few taverns and inns of reputation exist here, where the district meets Scion's Edge and Civic Square. North of the city is mostly wide lots where the few wealthier citizens live and where the Zharena's keep is located. Of all the districts, Arcanix University is the most unique. Floating half a mile above the city, the university is a series of wizard towers and great halls sitting upon chunks of earth. In the center of this airborne school sits the Arcanix snarl, a greenish glowing orb of concentrated arcane energy from an entanglement of the Weave.
Population: 23,830 (66% humans, 15% halflings, 15% gnomes, 4% other races)   Government: Zharena George Stacy (Male Human) works alongside an elected council of Arcatians. The Eclipse

Arcanix is home to a rare type of eclipse beacuse of its floating islands. Their path follows a figure eight above the town, with its center crossing point directly above Civic Square. IT takes the isladns 13 days to complete its movement. The crossing of Civic Square occasionally lines up with a double solar eclipse with the Sun, Linia, and I'ala. Here, the floating islands also align with the celestial bodies to block out the sun. This is even more rare than a double solar eclipse, and is celebrated with festivities throughout the town.
