Royal Family of Necai

The Royal Family of Necai, known as the House of Zar'Udes, has ruled the kingdom for centuries, believed to be divinely chosen by Udes, the God of War, Honor, and Glory. Their lineage is revered not only for their prowess in war and governance but also for their sacred connection to Udes. The royal family breeds and raises giant tigers, seen as the living embodiments of Udes’ divine power, further solidifying their divine mandate to rule.

Divine Right and Ancestry

The royal family traces its lineage back to the founding of Necai, following the War of the Twin Suns. Udes, after his victory over his twin brother Urther, is said to have anointed the first king of Necai, Kharos Zar’Udes, with divine authority. Since that day, each monarch of Necai has carried the title "Zar’Udes", meaning "Lord of Glory" in Thal’zakiri.   The belief that the royal family is chosen by Udes is deeply ingrained in Necain culture. The ruling monarch is viewed as the living embodiment of Udes' will, expected to lead with honor and strength in both times of war and peace. Each royal member undergoes rigorous training in both combat and strategy, ensuring that they embody the god's ideals of warrior leadership.

The Sacred Tigers of Udes

The royal family is renowned for their giant tigers, which they breed to honor Udes. These majestic creatures are not only sacred symbols of the god but also serve as royal mounts and companions. The tigers, with their sleek, powerful bodies and golden fur reminiscent of Udes’ divine form, are trained from birth to serve as protectors of the royal family.
  • Breeding Program: The breeding of giant tigers is an ancient and closely guarded tradition within the royal family. The tigers are trained to be both ferocious in battle and noble in demeanor, reflecting the dual nature of Udes as a god of war and honor. Only the strongest and most disciplined tigers are chosen to serve as mounts for the royal family.
  • The Royal Tiger Riders: Each monarch of Necai rides a giant tiger into battle, and the royal children are trained to do so from a young age. These Tiger Riders are symbols of Udes’ blessing, and it is believed that those who ride them are protected by Udes himself. The sight of a Necain king or queen astride a tiger inspires both fear and awe in the kingdom’s enemies.

Line of Succession

The line of succession within the royal family is strictly hereditary, passed from parent to child. The firstborn is typically groomed to take the throne, though all royal children are trained in the ways of combat and governance. Should the firstborn prove unworthy or dishonorable, the mantle may pass to a more capable sibling.   The Rite of Honor: Before any royal heir ascends to the throne, they must undergo the Rite of Honor, a sacred trial overseen by the high priests of Udes. This ritual tests their courage, honor, and combat prowess. Only those who pass the trial are considered worthy of Udes’ favor and allowed to wear the Crown of Glory.

Current Monarch

Seryna Zar’Udes
The current ruler of Necai is Queen Seryna Zar’Udes, Daughter of Andira Zar'Udes and her Half-orc husband Uhtred son of Halvor, a fearsome warrior and tactician known for her unyielding dedication to Udes' principles. Her giant tiger, Valkar, is one of the largest and most revered in the kingdom. Seryna's reign has been marked by both military conquests and the strengthening of Necai’s ties to the Aygir and Klo'karr, two key allies of the kingdom.

The Royal Symbolism

The Crest of Zar’Udes: The royal family’s crest features a golden tiger, symbolizing both their connection to Udes and their mastery over the sacred tigers. The tiger’s eyes are a deep blue, mirroring Udes’ own, and the crest is often worn as an emblem on royal armor and banners.   The Throne of Glory: The throne itself, located in the capital city of Halebrink, is said to have been blessed by Udes. Forged from celestial gold and adorned with tiger motifs, the Throne of Glory is a symbol of the divine mandate to rule. Only those who have passed the Rite of Honor are permitted to sit upon it.

Legacy and Reverence

The royal family of Necai is not only seen as rulers but also as spiritual leaders, embodying the virtues of strength, honor, and glory in every aspect of their lives. Their connection to Udes ensures that they are both feared and respected, not only by their people but also by their allies and enemies across Tanaria.
