Lumina Flower

Written by CrazyJack

'The Lumina Flowers hummed their faint song, a contrast to the injured man screaming in the next room. The healer picked up one of the small flowers, its pleasant aroma filling his nostrils, if he wasn't able to save the man, then maybe this gift from the Créators could.'   The Lumina Flower is a type of flora native to the jungles and swamps of Mirkireth, it is highly prized for its uses in alchemy and healing magic, as such it is cultivated by the Paédor in many of their settlements.

Basic Information

Anatomy

The flower itself is made up of exactly five, pure white petals, with a number of luminous seeds in the centre, from which the plant gets its name. Surrounding the flower is a ring of green leaves, and a short stalk down to the roots. The Lumina Flower is a magical plant, and can often be identified by the faint hum of magical energy that it gives off. The Flower also smells very pleasant due to the chemicals it gives off, which induce happiness in the individual who breathes them in. The Lumina Flower glows brightly in the dark, which also makes it easy to spot.

Genetics and Reproduction

When the parent plant dies, the seeds are dropped and sprout into new Lumina Flowers, however, the seeds can be very carefully picked and planted, keeping the parent plant alive, which then sprouts new seeds, this is how the Lumina Flowers are cultivated.

Ecology and Habitats

Lumina Flowers are particularly difficult to grow, taking a specialist years to master. This is due to the fact they will only grow in the perfect conditions, and die very quickly without them. The Lumina Flower needs the correct soil consistency and will only grow in very dark places, making Mirkireth the perfect environment. They also need other Lumina Flowers nearby in order to grow, making moving them extremely difficult. The tiny flower is also fragile and will wither if not treated with care.
