Haxan Mushroom
Haxan Mushrooms are a type of fungus that grows in caves all over the world, as well as above ground in Mirkireth, it is usually quite rare, however there are large concentrations in some Paédor Elf settlements where the species is farmed. The mushroom is characterised by a small twisting white/grey stalk, ending in an umbrella shaped cap. The mushroom is small, growing no bigger than one's hand.
Hallucinogenic Effects
The Haxan Mushroom is very popular among the Paédor and humans due to its hallucinogenic effects, which are quite potent. The Mushroom is used in a variety of Paédor rituals as well as recreationally in both species. The mushroom is usually consumed with no preparation, although is sometimes crushed and burned to produce a vapour. Its effects are long-lasting and powerful, giving the user a sense of overwhelming euphoria, as well as hallucinations. The content of these hallucinations vary from person to person, but are usually accompanied by a multitude of meaningless, shapeless colours and shapes. The effects of the mushroom are potent enough to make the user pass out, and even vomit in extreme cases. The effects, depending on the amount taken, can last from around 5 hours, to days at a time, although the user may have no concept of time passing. The Paédor believe the visions are given to them by the Creátors, and individuals will often relate their experience to shamans, who will interpret their hallucinations in order to tell their future. Due to the potency of the mushroom, it is also quite addictive. Most Paédor settlements will have laws saying that clan members must be exiled if they are found to have become addicted, and the mushroom is illegal in most human settlements as well.Reproduction and Growth
The Mushroom releases fungal spores each year, which then travel through the air and spread the fungus. It takes about a month for the mushroom to reach full size, and most don't live past a year before withering.
