The Arkyth is a plant native to the jungles of Mirkireth, its main attraction are its leaves, which, when the plant is mature, become hard and transparent, much like glass. This, coupled with their impressive colours, make them a popular decoration amongst the Paédor, who often use them as a substitute for glass in windows. The plant uses its massive leaves to capture what little sunlight can reach the jungle floor, as it uses photosynthesis to grow.

Anatomy

The plant consists of several large, star-like leaves that are around 6 feet in diameter when the plant is mature. As the plant grows, the leaves will change colour depending upon the age of the plant, green when newly sprouted, which then turns blue, purple, and finally red or orange, at which point the leaves will crystalize and become transparent and hard. A few months after hardening, the leaves, which contain seeds, will fall from the plant and shatter, which spreads the seeds.

Genetics and Reproduction

The plant is usually covered in pollen, which is spread to other plants by common insects, thus fertilizing them. After this the seeds begin the develop inside the plants leaves.

The Arkyth plant grows extremely quickly, and can reach its full size in around 6 months.

Ecology and Habitats

The Arkyth plant grows away from rivers and lakes and in the drier parts of the Mirkireth jungle.
