Session 24: The Epilogues

General Summary

As the group recover and look around they see Ma'lak's fire elementals start to disperse like mist under the newly invigorated rain. The fighting eventually stops and the soldiers from the The City State of Viken surrender. The horn blows from the city of Eidover telling the citizens that they are safe and the threat has gone.
After resting for a few minutes watching the fires starting to come under control in the city, everyone agrees to head back to the city and see what is left, Thorbrith suggests they go back to the dragon and the wolf for some nourishment and a good rest provided it is still standing.   Heading into the city they see people rushing around to put out the remaining fires, both Krux and Valanthe head off to help with the wounded while the others find the tavern is in one piece with Eamonn there welcoming people in who need food and rest.
Thorbrith heads to the bar while everyone sits and he brings them some drinks and Eamon follows shortly with a large platter of food which is greatly appreciated. Ninki enters not long after and sits with everyone looking a little disheveled yet with still gleaming armour as Saresh and Thorbrith settle the group raise a glass in a toast to their success. A feeling of peace settles over them and Rashal feels a hand on his shoulder, turning he sees Beira standing in the room a comforting blue glow around her.
“Well done and thank you, all of you, for helping me I can already feel my strength returning you will always be my champions." Slowly she fades away leaving the group with a feeling of comfort.
Faen looking both happy and dejected opens his spell book and finds a letter from Cuivie, tears fill his eyes as his mentor tells him how proud he is that Faen was the one who could finally help him to fulfill his wish to atone for the sins he committed during the Iskelian Expansion and finally end the runemen curse once and for all. Everyone agrees that it is time for a good rest and they head to find what space they can find to lay down.     Meanwhile Twig in his customary style sneaks in to the now broken throne room and rifles through it taking whatever pieces of the throne he can find before sneaking back out.     Over the course of the next week the group help out around the city where they can putting out fires and rebuilding or treating the injured. Faen and Astraea along with some other wizards from the university manage to dispel all of the soldiers and civilians with Orryn Timbers' runemen curse. Krux feeling his time to move on is approaching wanders the city looking for a mercenary company heading out of the city while Hanurak, who now has the undying respect and adoration of his orcs because of his defeat of their God, tasks his clan to help remove rubble and rebuild where they can but all are eager to return to their own fortress to rebuild their lives there.
Eidover Festival
Eidover celebrations
The King prepares a great celebration and as he stands on the stage above the crowd he tells them all how they will rebuild and grow stronger than before in the knowledge that they are protected. He calls the group on stage and says to the crowd.
"These are your heroes who single handedly defeated the greatest threat this city has ever seen" As the crowd cheers for them the king turns to Hanurak and the others and asks what they would like as a reward.
Hanurak asks for his fortress and its surrounding lands which the King gladly agrees to. Krux asks for free passage for his people through the city and the King agrees as long as they start no more trouble than the city guard can handle.
Astraea asks for a statue of Andre to be built with water around it in honour of her fallen comrade which the King tells her will be finished as soon as possible, in the years after it becomes a famous place for children to play and dare each other to drink the water. The King gladly agrees to the requests of the others and again turns to the crowd and with a raise of his arms shouts. "Your heroes!" And the crowd explodes into cheers. The festivities continue on early into the morning and the heroes are showered with gifts and praise of thanks from the people.   As the King returns to his throne room and views the works that are going on he sees an object in the back of the room. Approaching it he sees that his throne has been rebuilt all be it in a rather unconventional way and there is a letter.
Reading the letter he sees it is from a person called Twig who scavenged the throne pieces and has put them back together and also made the throne more comfortable. Chuckling to himself the King takes a seat ignoring the pointy bits trying to pierce his back and orders a new throne to be built but as a show of fun he keeps the old throne in the corner of the throne room which at times does seem to have extra pieces added.   The heroes make their way back to the tavern through the throngs of people all wanting to thank the heroes, when they enter they hear a shrill voice call out
"Greetings, my friends" Halin shouts seated with Saresh enjoying a drink.
Everyone joins them and over a few drinks they discuss the previous week’s events, Halin stands and says it is time for him to go to Ikel to retrieve his family. With a click of his fingers his mechanical dragon appears on his shoulder and with a bow says how honoured he has to know such amazing people and to be able to call them friends.
Astraea follows him out of the door and waves goodbye as he heads for the front gate.
She looks around the rubble strewn street and spots Chloe and her father George helping to rebuild the houses opposite. Chloe spots her and runs over pleased to show off the little magic she has learned and that she is planning to join the university to learn more.
Looking around Chloe seems disappointed until Astraea says that Faen is in the tavern and she heads off in a run to find him. George Grover approaches and thanks her for the help with Chloe. In the tavern Faen spots Chloe entering and quickly casts mirror image causing Chloe to run to one of his duplicates and hug him while the real Faen escapes and runs up the hill to the university.   Saresh comes out of the tavern with the others and tells Astraea that they are having a small ceremony for Alistair down by the docks if Astraea wishes to join them. As the remainder of the group head down to the docks they spot Faen, hiding and nervously looking around in case Chloe is with them.
Heading to the edge of waterfront Thorbrith carefully places a box with Alistair’s and the Vult sigil on it into one of the least damaged sailing yachts that Alistair loved to race, with a simple incantation Thorbrith sends the yacht into the middle of the bay and with a few more words he gently lowers it into the water and everyone says a silent prayer for the great man.
As they turn to leave Astraea sees Sani approaching and heading back to the tavern she tells him that she will be returning to Waterdeep in the next year for the night of the flawed dawn festival he looks forward to seeing her and the party there and they part ways.   In the months that come everyone moves on. Faen becomes part of the Unseen University teaching and has soon taken over Orryn's position along with a small but impressive portfolio of properties in Eidover area thanks to Cuivie’s final gift, a spell known as Cuivie’s Cash and Carry.
Hanurak moves back to his fortress and they rebuild it along with Valanthe returning to her tribe in the Prickling Forest where over the years they establish a good relationship with each other and the King of Eidover.   They all meet up in Waterdeep for the Night of the Flawed Dawn and as they approach the statue of Rashal, Astraea is saddened by the fact her friend Andre fell during battle. Astraea, tearfully pours Andre’s ashes into the fountain and says a few words before raising a toast for him and wishing him well now he is finally with Beira.
The festivities around them cease as everyone watches the sky for the first streaks of light but the usual flaming sky seems muted this year and Rashal hears Beira say that it is really over and that she can now rest for awhile.
She offers for him to rejoin her or live his life as a mortal which he says he wishes to live a full mortal life and does not want to waste his second chance. She nods to him and thanks him for everything he has done and wishes him well for the future, but assures him that she will be there when he is ready to return.

The Epilogues

Astraea returns to her home and tells her father of the death of Elanil and cuts all ties with her family and home because of the cruel way Elanil was treated. She continues to live on in Eidover visiting her friends when she can.
Astraea tries to find out where Noah is and with Twig’s help does manage to find the lair of a great necromancer and rescue him. They take him to a dwarf village Andre spoke of and the last they heard he was returning to full strength.
Eventually she and Faen go to the Order of Draco’s headquarters in search of the man Jarn'Theyir that she believes may be Faen’s father during her trips in Elanil’s mind. There she discovers that the shifter Nightshade is now the order’s head.
He doesn't know where Faen's father has gone as he left the order many years ago and disappeared.
Astraea offers to help Faen look but he says that he realises it doesn't matter Cuivie was more of a father to him.   Faen continues working at the unseen university trying to reproduce Maelor's spectral hammer for defensive purposes along with finding spells on the newly rediscovered 10th level of magic, becoming his life's work Faen manages to produce a small number of spells, such as Galanodel’s Shroud, a piece of diviniation magic so powerful it can hide objects from the Gods themselves and the Imbuement of Ecstasy, which this author will leave you to work out the specifics for.
After many years of labour Faen does finally manage to upgrade Eidover’s shield to include elements of Maelor’s spectral hammer to protect the city.
Faen Defending
Faen's new shield
In his long running duel with the dragon he stole from, Twig calls on Astraea to help him to trick it into believing he is dead by having her burn him alive in a public place. Miraculously the plan works although the Tabaxi does learn a few weeks later that Saresh and Eamon killed the dragon in revenge for Alistair. Considering himself lucky he goes on to wander the land with his bag of holding and random trinkets returning to Eidover periodically to add to the King’s throne, despite the King’s best efforts to catch him.   Krux moves on not long after the battle with Ma'lak and continued to fight in battles where he was needed until dying of old age a few years later.     Valanthe returns to the pricking forest, marrying Tarrius and after the death of her father becomes the leader of her people bringing in a great age of peace under the protection of the Kingdom of Tronde and Hanurak’s fortress.   Hanurak builds his fortress up and defeats anyone who challenges him to his throne from the clan. He manages to teach his orcs not to be so quick to fight and they do garner the reputation of being one of the more peaceful Orc hordes while still having great respect from the other tribes. They become friends with the villagers of Asbrook which thrives under their protection becoming one of the fastest growing towns in the kingdom as a rest stop to Eidover. Over time they become great allies with Hanurak's domain growing as orcs hear of his great deeds and come from all around to join him.
Meanwhile Rashal the druid spends the next few hundred years wandering the world, assisting in resolving disputes as the saviour of Eidover and spreading the word of the Water Queen, Beira as her champion to any who will listen, but ever vigilant for the return of Orryn or Ma’lak.
