Commoros

City of commerce

Commoros is the capital city of the principality of Vykos in Cerunea. Over 4000 years old, it sits at the peak of the island, a highly defensible position that has allowed it survive many conflicts. It is most famous for being home to the worlds first mint, the great temple of Mammon, god of coins, and the vaults of Mammon, the worlds first bank.

Demographics

Almost entirely human. There is a distinct upper class comprising of the lower nobility, noted philosophers, merchants and priesthood. This accounts for around 15% of the population. A further 20% of the population would be considered middle class, artisans, military officers and the like, with the rest of the poulation working class.

Government

Vykos is a principality and in theory Commoros falls under the direct control of its prince. In practice however he spends most of his time in the capital. The day to day affairs of the city are run by an Agoronom, in this case the prince's cousin, Dytos.

Defences

A high mountain location combined with aged yet effective battlements and a narrow approach to the city makes it very well defended, particulary as any aggressor must first land on the island and get to the city.

Industry & Trade

Banking and commerce are the lifeblood of the city.

Infrastructure

Numerous furnaces and smithies are dotted around the city, but most notable is Cerunian mint, the first such building in the world. There is also the local palace, from which the island of Vykos is ruled, though the prince is often absent and real power resides with the priests of Mammon.

Assets

The city possesses considerable wealth. If one considers the total contents of the vaults of Mammon then the wealth could well be unimaginable, as nobody save the priests know exactly how much is down there.

Guilds and Factions

In addition to the vaults of Mammon there are other banks in the city too. There are also a number of legal firms dealing with financial and property law, and several mercenaries who offer protection to thoose moving their treasures to or from the banks.

Architecture

The city is primarily built of stone, this being more readily available than timber. Many of the ancient buildings are large and imposing, though newer structures are tired and lackluster.

Geography

The city sits atop the highest mountain on the island of Vykos. It therefore has commanding views of the surrounding seas, and excellent natural defences.

Natural Resources

Nearby woodland is sparse but provides some timber and limited game. Nearby farms grow vegetables and raise pigs and goats, and there is always ample fish form the sea. The mountains provide ample stone and some marble.
