As the Deputy, Canis was the lead for the 1003 SporPar Outbreak response. The other twelve vocations looked to Health Services for guidance. Deputy Darwin brought together specialists from both Health Services and Preservation. Mainly those who worked in microbiology and related fields, like virology. Her response was through and countless lives were saved as a result. Conversely, she played a role in the team’s decision to allow the individuals who were first exposed to the parasite to return home.
Some blame Health Services and Preservation for the outbreak happening, and don’t praise their efforts in combating the illness. It was a wrong decision made right, not a heroic response. However, most opinions of the response are positive.

Personal history
Canis had an unusual, for Talitha Harbor, childhood. Her parents lived in The Great City of Simmah’s chipless homeschool community. In Talithan culture, public school is a right and all students are required to attend. In The great cities of Anunitum and Pangu it’s law. Simmah is the only city of the three that doesn’t require children to attend Vocational School.
Canis grew up with three parents, which isn’t unusual. Their culture doesn’t consider monogamy the norm. All three of her parents identified as women and wanted to be called a mother. They also choose to have Darwin as their union surname. Lily was Canis’ birth mother. Ember donated sperm, choosing the medical route as an asexual person with a sex aversion. Her third mother, Skye, was an equal in raising Canis and her sibling, Zoey. To differentiate, Canis and Zoey used their mother’s name along with Mama. So, Mama Lily, Mama Ember, and Mama Skye.
Growing up, Canis learned community, empathy, and the skills her parents thought she’d need. Reading, basic arithmetic, and the identification of safe and dangerous plants and animals were all part of her learning. The chipless give back to society with a variety of self-employed jobs, from growing food, foraging, various forms of art, companionship, cooking, etc. The children of the homeschool community learn basics, then follow adults around and learn what they do. They are not resigned to only their parent’s chosen jobs. As long as it’s child appropriate, they can learn.
When Canis was thirteen, she wanted to join Health Services. The chipless children don’t get the same education about the vocational system, but they still interact with it for their basic needs, to include medical. They’re given autonomy, like the rest of Talitha. Once Canis voiced her request, they were obligated to allow her to join. Not all chipless parents are supportive if their children decide to work in the system. Canis’ mothers, however, fully supported her and Health Services was happy to accept her.
The Simmah vocational schoolhouses have programs to catchup homeschooled children and fill in any educational gaps. Canis attended one with four other students. Then went on to Vocational school. Although she was the oldest in most classes, they treated her like any other student.
Canis graduated and worked as a Tier-I lab assistant for two sols before requesting a move to the City of Anunitum’s Health Services. Their specialists were working on new treatments for chronic insomnia and a form of inflammatory bowel disease that was specifically caused by a Talithan toxic. She had seen members of her community suffer from the latter and wanted to help.
Gender Identity
Talithan children are not assigned a gender at birth. They’re given the child specific gender neutral pronouns te/ter. When they’re ready, the child will identify their gender, pronouns, and sometimes they’ll also change their name. Names have no legal connection to a person and they can change them as often as they like. Gender fluid people can also change their gender as they see fit.
Canis was given the birth name of Cory, but changed it when she was nine sols. She had looked up her family’s name and learned about the Earthian Charles Darwin, to include his love of dogs. She liked the Latin name and took the first word for her own.
Canis has identified as a woman, with the pronouns she/her, since that day.
Sexuality
Canis prefers people who lean masculine and have a penis. She doesn’t care what pronouns or gender identity the other person uses. She loses sexual interest if the person is more feminine than she is.
She is romantically polyamorous and prefers long-term relationships over casual.
