Nutrate-deficient Syndrome

Causes

A member of the population of Òlhakeike underwent genetic refinement, making them potentially eligible for professions as a Hound or Dragoon. However, the mutate configuration has not reached a fully stable iteration. This subject remains dependent upon a maintenance serum of vitamins, nutrients, and stabilizers known as Nutrate. When circumstances prevent the subject from treatment on the prescribed schedule, their mutate biology may become increasingly erratic or unstable.   This person is now Nutrate-deficient. They will continue to devolve until a rescue regimen can be applied, or until their genetic structure decays past a viable point.

Symptoms

  • jittery function in fine muscle groups
  • possible loss of hair, fur, teeth, or scale
  • high tendency to dehydration
  • brittle or peeling fingernails, toenails, or claws
  • painful hypersensitivity to pressure sensations
  • difficulty in controlling mutant abilities
  • anxiety

Treatment

  1. Three to five days of minimal subdermal dosing with Nutrate every half hour
  2.
  3. Two days of heavy, near-constant dosing at concentrated strength, either subdermal or via immersion.
  4.
  5. Confine subject. Provide four small vials of 0.1 liter each, equal parts Nutrate and a neutral fluid such as water or skim goat milk. Allow subject to regulate own dosage, but replace emptied doses with full no more often than every 6 hours.
  6.
  7. As subject demonstrates increasing self-management, increase delay between resupplies until subject is back on prescribed dosage per day.

Affected Groups

Drouk:
  • Marc'heger Dragoons
(early iterations most likely to succumb to shortages)
  •
  • Hounds
(susceptibility varies widely; in absence of other criteria, those already on track for promotion to Dragoon are more likely to experience Nutrate-deficient Syndrome than lower-ranked Pack.)
