Hegelind (Hedge/e/lind)

With the richer sections precariously tethering out over the western edge of The Grey Fissure Hegelind is the center for all trade in Kalandorai. Expanding out in a circular pattern across the plains its ever sprawling arms are flung wide to pull all of Kalandorai's trade to its ever-growing bosom.   The white city is home to most of the more city-loving folk of the nation. Having ready access to the Springs of Koroc means unlimited water from the falls that flow down into its bottomless pools from the mountains to the north.

History

Constructed at the turn of the 9th Century the building of this great city of stone took almost 3 years to lay the groundwork. The city was constructed almost exclusively from stone quarried in the mountains to the northeast along with stone that was quarried from along the western shoreline of The Grey Fissure .   A walled city in the past its outer fortifications rose sturdily into the sky above. This city was protected from without not because the people feared war but because many great relics and artifacts were stored in a city of this size and the threat of Shdaowreavers still existed in the minds of the older races. The great losses of the Horath Assembly in Marrharuj are still felt with quite a sting by magi, clerics, and other magic users across the Kingdom.

Modern Day

A massive port and trade center now governs much of the cities direction when it comes to modern-day affairs. One of the few cities not governed by a magi group, Hegelind is run by an elected government chosen by its citizens. The outer walls are more a relic of a time gone, and though they still stand in some places most of it has been repurposed into constructing housing and lodgings on the outer edges of the city. There has been no Reaver activity in over a century since the attack on Marrhruj but the Horath Assembly will take no risk of history repeating itself again and so there is still a well-fortified section of the city standing on the eastern side that is most distant from the sea.   The center of the city is filled with a large grey paved central square that is dwarfed by the massive spire atop the Hegelind High Temple to Gamrii, The Sky Mother.   The population of the city is mostly younglings. When the census was carried out in 1066 it showed that the cities racial breakdown was:
  • Humans 51%
  • Elves 7%
  • Dwarves 5%
  • Tabaxi 12%
  • Halflings 15%
  • Other 10%

Trade

Internally most of the trade outgoing from Hegelind is farm goods from the plains, large shipments of wheat, barley, and hops are sent to the northern kingdoms. Incoming trade is almost all luxuries for the richer folk that is taken from the mines of the northern areas due to the lack of ores and stones in the southern parts.
