War over the Cotton Sea

Suddenly Tentacles

During a rather notably peaceful day in the Cotton Sea, there was a rip in the fabric of reality that connected to an unknown plane. The witnesses of the event claim it was a large towering sphere that appeared randomly as a large creature with multiple tentacles appeared before them. As this creature plummeted into the sea they had an immediate impact on the environment as they consumed numerous large sea creatures within minutes of appearing, as if starving. This alone was alarming however after consuming these creatures they began to come back in the form of undead, as this large creature was effectively creating zombies and animated skeletons as it consumed things in the sea.    The reaction to it's appearance was relatively swift, as champions for Tsukuyomi were the first to appear. Leaping from the sea to either kill or push this creature back they managed to keep the beast at bay long enough for the first ships to arrive. The first nations to appear were those of Merfolk under the sea, of which Pala'Dor, Le Croix, and Sho'leroux, who swam from the bottom of the sea with their own armies. Ships from Le Jardin and Shaar appeared rather closely behind with cannons and destructive magic, both carrying figures that would be instrumental in the war that would follow. The next and last set of ships to arrive were those from Hausten and Strakonec, which carried the largest cannons out of all the ships in this war.

The Trident

The first and one of the most powerful figures to appear in this conflict was a robust triton who wielded a Trident from Siegmond's Armory. With this trident they were able to decimate numerous of the undead and eventually cripple the being at the end of the conflict. The Trident bearer ended up being in charge and riding in with several of the ships that joined the fight, transitioning between coordinating the ships and where they'd be most effective to being in the water facing off against the undead themselves intermittently. It was said that they also had mastered the trident in a way that let them fly through the water at incredible speed, this being a method they used to leap from the water and attack the creature.   Tragically, in that last moment when this Trident bearer stunned the creature, it was their last moment as they flew directly into a shrapnel from other ships, cutting themselves on impact from ripped and torn metal. According to the record of the Merfolk, the trident fell into the sea afterwards and was claimed by Pala'dor, instituting that they would hold the trident for the next worthy individual whom they'd make king or queen. There is no documented evidence that the Trident has picked anyone else since this bearer's sacrifice.

Two Phoenixes

When Le Jardin joined into the fight there were two figures with fiery wings that appeared. Under the banner of The Illyad several ships set out and were casting immense fire at this creatures in these waters. There was political backlash from their appearance as well, as sometimes their attacks were so strong that they'd cause the water to boil in places. While there were no casualties in friendly fire there were arguments across ships. Eventually, they had to coordinate their movement to make the water boil in the right places as to weaken either the creature or their undead army. One of the phoenixes share responsibility for the victory with the trident bearer as well, in that they seared the monster to make an opening for the trident to stun them. This was the first documented cast of the spell 'Burn from Within'.   These two were later identified as Solveig  and Bruni, names that are heavily associated with the Valkyries. The ship, known as Sid was the one they sailed on and was one of the few boats that didn't leave the fight once they joined it. Sid, Stürme Lachen, and Spirit Driver were the only ships that survived the initial fight and stayed in said fight once they arrived. They also are the only ships that ran out of cannons, eventually shooting rocks and shrapnel just to keep fighting. In a maneuver referred to as Bomb and Watch, Sid sailed next to Spirit Driver and would cast fireballs at crates of powder that Spirit Driver threw overboard. The watch part of it was to count how many undead bodies would float or be decimated, so they'd watch their explosions every time. Two sailors got tinnitus.

Wings of fog

It's of no surprise that the Valkyries had appeared during this conflict, however a particular one under the name of Mist appeared and would encase the fleet in fog. When the ships from Shaar arrived and they lost a whole row of ships she shifted the fog in their favor, giving them priority in protecting them. Of course, her fog would eventually expand over the whole battlefield, but she would eventually remain with the ships of Shaar. Their presence shifted the tide in their favor due to her ability to obscure the vision of the creature, allowing multiple theaters to be created as the creature was moved around within different areas that accounted it's visible space. She sadly could not fill the underwater portion of the battlefield with fog but still allowed those on the surface to have some sort of advantage in the fight.   The fog that filled the space was so instrumental to the fight that most, if not all, murals of this conflict would portray a thick fog around the whole battlefield. This would be the main even that Mist would be known for for years to come. After the conflict Mist would return to Shaar with the centaur she initially rescued, Rodan.

Bending stone and water

One of the instrumental figures in this war was the Avatar, who appeared with the ships that came from Hausten. Given a ship full of cannon balls and no cannons, they would throw and cut many of the cannonballs and spear them at the creature. She stayed mostly up front and didn't use their efforts much in fighting the undead army. Their efforts in the fight was still more than helpful, in that they kept the creature busy for most- if not all- of the war.
