Abnormal Heart: Nelpara
Born bearing marks of infernal blood, either due to a parent's possession or a cult's pact, children who are born with the chthonic mark and survive into adulthood are known as Nelpara (lit. curse-born). Though the mark's influence can start small, it can quickly come to dominate one's appearance depending on the mark's strength, ranging from two horns, discolored skin, or a pointed tail to a bone-growth mantle, leathery wings, or hoofed feet.
Gameplay Traits
- Ability Score Increase. Nelpara bear within themselves traces of an infernal resilience designed for withstanding harsh terrain and physical punishment, with a small part reserved for future malleability. Increase your Constitution ability score by 2 and any other ability score of your choice by 1.
- Creature Type. You are a Heart. You also have the Humanoid tag for any prerequisite or effect that requires you to be Humanoid. Abnormal Hearts exist on a spectrum between being counted as a true Heart and being counted as a full Wildling. Although distinctive changes are present in Nelpara, for the most part they still retain a striking resemblance to Hearts.
- Size. Your size is Medium.
- Speed. Your base walking speed is 30 feet.
- Languages. You can speak, read, and write one Native Language of your choice (typically reflecting the region you grew up in), and you know one Trade Language that you and your GM agree is appropriate for your character. You also know Atenmae, which counts as an Ancestral Language for you (Click here to see a breakdown of the different languages encountered throughout Olum).
- Infernal Heritage. Roll on the table below to gain a damage resistance and a special trait that represents which Court of the Six your tainted blood hails from.
- Of War and Blood. Nelpara often find within themselves a natural disposition towards self-discipline and a craving for excelling at the art of war. When you score a critical hit with a melee weapon attack, you can roll one of the weapon's damage dice one additional time and add it to the extra damage of the critical hit. This trait does not work against Constructs and Spirits.
- Tampered Genes. Choose one trait listed below to represent how your infernal heritage has rearranged your form.
- Powerful Hooves. Your legs are covered in fur, with hooves for feet. You can Shove as a bonus action a number of times equal to your proficiency bonus. When you Shove in this way, on a hit, your opponent also takes 1d4 + your Strength modifier bludgeoning damage, in addition to the normal effects. You recharge all expended uses when you finish a long rest.
- Wing Flap. You have a pair of stunted, leathery wings. As a bonus action, you can use your wings to propel yourself at a distance equal to half your walking speed when jumping, extending the distance of a long or high jump, with or without a running start.
- Whipcracker. You have a long, nimble tail, which counts as a natural weapon for you. You can use your tail as if it were a whip, and you also gain proficiency with whips.
- Strict Adherence. You have disadvantage on saving throws against being charmed by Pentacles. Additionally, Insight checks made against you to tell whether or not you are lying are made with advantage.
