Manaweave
Manaweave is a unique form of textile, composed of a cloth-like material suffused with Aether (or Mana, as the essence was known at the time of Manaweaves creation). Due to its use in creating magically enhanced clothing, it's considered a valuable commodity among magic users, and is perhaps the single biggest source of wealth for the Myrellian city of Magedenn, with manaweave exports forming the backbone of the cities economy.
Properties
Material Characteristics
Manaweave bears many similarities to ordinary cloth at a glance, though a closer look reveals that its colours are more vibrant than ordinary cloth, and seem to almost glow softly. Manaweave made by skilled enough weavers can also have glowing patterns in them.
Physical & Chemical Properties
Manaweave can channel Aether better than other textiles, due to containing some amounts of Aether itself. Additionally, some people who've worked with the material say it felt comfortably warm to the touch, and even feels as soft as most silks.
Origin & Source
Manaweave is made from normal cloth that had been infused with Aether. The cotton and wool used to make the cloth used in manaweave has no effect on its magical properties, only its comfort.
History & Usage
Everyday use
Some artists have taken to using Manaweave in their tapestries and quilts.
Industrial Use
Manaweave is most commonly used in the manufacturing of magical clothing, such as robes, sashes, hats, etc. In more recent times, its even found use in the manufacturing of sails for airships, as it's easier to attach the necessary enchantments to it than ordinary cloth.
Manufacturing & Products
Manaweave is the most important component in the creation of magical clothing, most commonly mage robes. Especially high quality Manaweave is used to create more powerful clothing, such as the robes of powerful mages and a number of famous enchanted items of clothing, including the hat of the legendary bard Leon Greyson.
Reusability & Recycling
Any damaged clothing made from Manaweave is brought to a weaver to be mended or, failing that, to be scrapped for any usable material.
Distribution
Trade & Market
While Manaweave can be found in many markets throughout the human kingdoms and beyond, the biggest supplier of this material is the Myrellian city of Magedenn. Between the lengthy process of crafting Manaweave and its cost, it's an uncommon commodity that's only really purchased regularly by mages.
